Comparative investigation on magnetic capture selectivity between single wires and a real matrix

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2018
High gradient magnetic separation (HGMS) achieves the effective separation to fine weakly magnetic minerals through a magnetic matrix. In practice, the matrix is made of numerous magnetic wires, so that an insight into the magnetic capture ...

Three‐Dimensional Printed Microarchitected Hierarchically Porous Biodegradable PLA/S/CNT Nanocomposite Electrodes for High‐Performance Lithium–Sulfur Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Hierarchically microarchitected PLA/S/CNT cathodes are fabricated via scalable fused filament 3D printing as high‐sulfur‐loading hosts for rechargeable lithium–sulfur batteries. The assembled Li–S cells with sulfur loadings up to 17 mg cm−2 deliver an areal capacity of 9.2 mAh cm−2 and retain 96% of their discharge capacity after 100 charge–discharge ...

Coarse and Fine-Grained Sediment Magnetic Properties from Upstream to Downstream in Jiulong River, Southeastern China and Their Environmental Implications

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Magnetic parameters of river sediments are commonly used as end-members for source tracing in the coasts and shelves. The eastern continental shelf area of China, with multiple sources of input, is a key region for discussing sediment sources.

Delineation of mineral potential zone using high resolution aeromagnetic data over part of Nasarawa State, North Central, Nigeria

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Petroleum, 2018
Qualitative analysis of aeromagnetic data of part of Nasarawa State had been carried out with the aim of delineating mineral potential zone. The study area is bounded by Longitude 8.0°E – 9.0°E and Latitude 8.0°N – 9.5°N with an estimated total area of ...

Tumbling Magnetic Microrobots for Targeted In Vivo Drug Delivery in the GI Tract

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
We introduce a microrobot design and integrated system for on‐demand targeted drug release in the gastrointestinal tract. The microrobot has an embedded magnet for actuation with external magnetic fields and is visualized in real time using ultrasound. It has two drug release ports sealed with a thermally sensitive wax. Local heating of the wax using a

Grain entrainment and transport rates of magnetic minerals of coastal sediment samples from the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand

open access: yes, 2013
Heavy (magnetic & non-magnetic) minerals are found concentrated by natural processes in many fluvial, estuarine, coastal and shelf environments with a potential to form economic placer deposits.

Cyclodextrin‐Functionalized Light‐Driven Cu2O Micromotors for Simultaneous Capture and Degradation of Bisphenol A

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Fuel‐free Cu2O‐based micromotors functionalized with β‐cyclodextrin actively remove bisphenol A from water under visible light. The cyclodextrin shell captures BPA and enhances micromotor motility, leading to faster degradation and higher overall removal than nonfunctionalized Cu2O and Cu2O@Au.

Probing magnetic order in EELS of chromite spinels using both multiple scattering (FEFF8.2) and DFT (WIEN2k) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The electron energy loss near edge structure on the O K-edge from chromite spinels contains fine structure from the hybridisation of the O p-orbitals and the Cr d-orbitals.

Engineering Osteoimmune Responses with Functionalized Orthopedic Implants for Post‐Operative Osteosarcoma Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Osteosarcoma is the most common primary bone tumor with limited treatment options and a terrible prognosis. This review provides a comprehensive summary of the recent development of osteoimmunomodulatory implants for post‐operative osteosarcoma treatment, of which the potential utility in evoking durable anti‐osteosarcoma immunity and accelerating bone
