Mineral magnetism in marine sediments
1986Of all the environmental systems considered in this book, the sea is, from a mineral magnetic point of view, by far the most complex. Potentially significant sources of magnetic minerals are at their most varied and include not only all those of relevance to lacustrine and atmospheric studies but also submarine and extraterrestrial sources.

The primary source material from which the Earth’s crust is constructed is the volcanic and plutonic rock of the spreading centres of the ocean basins. The primary magnetic minerals of the crust are the minerals of such rocks. Just as the rocks are altered in the submarine environment, reworked at the subduction zones, weathered and eroded as ...

Magnetic mineralogy and magnetic identification of minerals
1983Iron is a common accessory component of all rocks, but usually occurs as an oxide or hydroxide in terrestrial rocks. In meteorites and lunar samples, it occurs predominantly in an elemental form and native iron has been reported in some oceanic igneous rocks (Deutsch et al., 1977), although this is very exceptional.
