The effect of hydrogen on the magnetic properties of FeV superlattice

open access: yes, 2011
The electronic and magnetic structures of a hydrogenated and hydrogen free superlattice of 3 iron monolayers and 9 vanadium monolayers are studied using the first principle full-potential augmented-plane-wave method as implemented in WIEN2k package.

Targeting the AKT/mTOR pathway attenuates the metastatic potential of colorectal carcinoma circulating tumor cells in a murine xenotransplantation model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dual targeting of AKT and mTOR using MK2206 and RAD001 reduces tumor burden in an intracardiac colon cancer circulating tumor cell xenotransplantation model. Analysis of AKT isoform‐specific knockdowns in CTC‐MCC‐41 reveals differentially regulated proteins and phospho‐proteins by liquid chromatography coupled mass spectrometry. Circulating tumor cells

Classical statistical thermodynamics of a gas of charged particles in magnetic field

open access: yesCondensed Matter Physics, 2006
We will demonstrate that the paradox of classical statistical thermodynamics for a gas of charged particles in a magnetic field (GMF) has not yet been explained. The paradox lies in the statement that the average magnetic moment of a gas is zero, whereas

Magnetic moment non-conservation in magnetohydrodynamic turbulence models

open access: yes, 2012
The fundamental assumptions of the adiabatic theory do not apply in presence of sharp field gradients as well as in presence of well developed magnetohydrodynamic turbulence.

Magnetic moment of the Roper resonance

open access: yesPhysics Letters B, 2012
The magnetic moment of the Roper resonance is calculated in the framework of a low-energy effective field theory of the strong interactions. A systematic power-counting procedure is implemented by applying the complex-mass scheme.

Aberrant expression of nuclear prothymosin α contributes to epithelial‐mesenchymal transition in lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nuclear prothymosin α inhibits epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in lung cancer by increasing Smad7 acetylation and competing with Smad2 for binding to SNAI1, TWIST1, and ZEB1 promoters. In early‐stage cancer, ProT suppresses TGF‐β‐induced EMT, while its loss in the nucleus in late‐stage cancer leads to enhanced EMT and poor prognosis.

Trapped Ion Oscillation Frequencies as Sensors for Spectroscopy

open access: yesSensors, 2010
The oscillation frequencies of charged particles in a Penning trap can serve as sensors for spectroscopy when additional field components are introduced to the magnetic and electric fields used for confinement. The presence of so-called “magnetic bottles”

Dose‐dependent induction of epithelial‐mesenchymal transition in 3D melanoma models by non‐thermal plasma treatment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Non‐thermal plasma treatment of melanoma cells induced epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in a dose‐dependent fashion. This report highlights the critical need to further investigate potential adverse effects of non‐thermal plasma for cancer therapy and to optimize treatment parameters for clinical translation. Despite the promising results of non‐

Structural Stability and Magnetic Ordering in BiFeO3 Perovskite Oxide: A Comparative Study GGA+U vs L(S)DA+U

open access: yesAnnals of West University of Timisoara: Physics, 2020
Ab initio calculations of BiFeO3 magnetic perovskite are carried. Accurate density functional theory calculations were performed considering a U-Hubbard correction (DFT+U) to account for on-site Coulomb interactions of the 3d-Fe states.

Unquenched large orbital magnetic moment in NiO

open access: yes, 2000
Magnetic properties of NiO are investigated by incorporating the spin-orbit interaction in the LSDA+U scheme. It is found that the large part of orbital moment remains unquenched in NiO.
