Orbital magnetism in the half-metallic Heusler alloys [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review B 71, 012413 (2005), 2004
Using the fully-relativistic screened Korringa-Kohn-Rostoker method I study the orbital magnetism in the half-metallic Heusler alloys. Orbital moments are almost completely quenched and they are negligible with respect to the spin moments. The change in the atomic-resolved orbital moments can be easily explained in terms of the spin-orbit strength and ...

4f spin density in the reentrant ferromagnet SmMn2Ge2

open access: yes, 2000
The spin contribution to the magnetic moment in SmMn2Ge2 has been measured by magnetic Compton scattering in both the low and high temperature ferromagnetic phases. At low temperature, the Sm site is shown to possess a large 4f spin moment of 3.4 +/- 0.1

Enhanced orbital magnetic moments in magnetic heterostructures with interface perpendicular magnetic anisotropy [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports 5, 14858 (2015), 2015
We have studied the magnetic layer thickness dependence of the orbital magnetic moment in magnetic heterostructures to identify contributions from interfaces. Three different heterostructures, Ta/CoFeB/MgO, Pt/Co/AlO$_x$ and Pt/Co/Pt, which possess significant interface contribution to the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, are studied as model systems.

Heusler alloys for spintronic devices: review on recent development and future perspectives

open access: yesScience and Technology of Advanced Materials, 2021
Heusler alloys are theoretically predicted to become half-metals at room temperature (RT). The advantages of using these alloys are good lattice matching with major substrates, high Curie temperature above RT and intermetallic controllability for spin ...

Magnetic moment non-conservation in magnetohydrodynamic turbulence models

open access: yes, 2012
The fundamental assumptions of the adiabatic theory do not apply in presence of sharp field gradients as well as in presence of well developed magnetohydrodynamic turbulence.

Classical statistical thermodynamics of a gas of charged particles in magnetic field

open access: yesCondensed Matter Physics, 2006
We will demonstrate that the paradox of classical statistical thermodynamics for a gas of charged particles in a magnetic field (GMF) has not yet been explained. The paradox lies in the statement that the average magnetic moment of a gas is zero, whereas

Noncommutative magnetic moment of charged particles

open access: yes, 2011
It has been argued, that in noncommutative field theories sizes of physical objects cannot be taken smaller than an elementary length related to noncommutativity parameters.

Impact of the magnetic proximity effect in Pt on the total magnetic moment of Pt/Co/Ta trilayers studied by x-ray resonant magnetic reflectivity

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2020
In this work, we study the influence of the magnetic proximity effect (MPE) in Pt on the total magnetic moment of thin film trilayer systems consisting of the ferromagnet (FM) Co adjacent to the heavy metals (HMs ...

Enhanced orbital magnetic moment of Co film grown on Fe3O4(001)

open access: yesAIP Advances
We investigate the magnetic and electronic properties of Co films on Fe3O4(001) achieved through epitaxial growth using magnetron sputtering. X-ray magnetic circularly dichroism measurements characterize the atomic magnetism.

Analytical Solutions of Eddy-Current Problems in a Finite Length Cylinder

open access: yesAdvanced Electromagnetics, 2018
Magnetic field and eddy currents in a cylinder of finite length are calculated by separation of variables. The magnetic field outside the cylinder or inside the bore of the hollow cylinder and shell is expressed in terms of Bessel functions.
