Analysis of Surface Roughness Influence in Non-Destructive Magnetic Measurements Applied to Reactor Pressure Vessel Steels

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
The influence of surface roughness on magnetic measurements of Reactor Pressure Vessel Steels was investigated by applying two types of magnetic, non-destructive measurement on nuclear reactor pressure vessel steel samples: magnetic adaptive testing (MAT)

Modes Control of Lamb Wave in Plates Using Meander-Line Electromagnetic Acoustic Transducers

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
The multimode and dispersion characteristics of Lamb waves make them difficult to apply to nondestructive evaluation. This paper presents a paired configuration of a meander-line coil electromagnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT) to generate a single-mode ...

Nondestructive evaluation of fatigue damage on steels using magnetic techniques

open access: yesNDT & E International, 1996
In many cases, where a high reliability is demanded, such as in nuclear power plants or civil engineering structures, steel components are subject to fatigue damage. The possibility of nondestructively assessing this damage would thus be of great interest, especially in order to evaluate the remaining lifetime and the point when the risk of failure ...

Anisotropy Evaluation and Defect Detection on Laser Power Bed Fusion 316L Stainless Steel

open access: yesMicromachines, 2023
Because of rapid heating, cooling, and solidification during metal additive manufacturing (AM), the resulting products exhibit strong anisotropy and are at risk of quality problems from metallurgical defects. The defects and anisotropy affect the fatigue

Magnetic Hysteresis and Barkausen Noise in Plastically Deformed Steel Sheets

open access: yesMetals, 2017
The magnetic properties of steels are affected by plastic deformation, because the domain wall processes magnetoelastically interact with the dislocations and the residual stresses.

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.
