The Oscillations of Magnetic Suspensions
Journal of Applied Physics, 1951The oscillations of a magnetic suspension between two equal poles are formulated in terms of a nonlinear ordinary differential equation of the second order that may be integrated in terms of elliptic integrals of the second kind. The case of unequal poles is treated by an analogous procedure involving a Legendre reduction.

A Magnetically Tuned Quadrature Oscillator
IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits, 2007Continuous frequency tuning by control of the magnetic field of a transformer - capacitor tank, in a selective oscillator, is explored in this work. A quadrature generator is built connecting two identical transformer - capacitor oscillator cells in a feedback loop.

Abstract In magnetism lessons, the demonstrator likely needs an apparatus to visualize the interaction between the Earth’s magnetic field and the magnetic moments of a magnet. So, we present a simple and economical apparatus to fit this purpose and to determine the value of the horizontal component of the Earth’s magnetic field.

Magnetically coupled magnet–spring oscillators
European Journal of Physics, 2010A system of two magnets hung from two vertical springs and oscillating in the hollows of a pair of coils connected in series is a new, interesting and useful example of coupled oscillators. The electromagnetically coupled oscillations of these oscillators are experimentally and theoretically studied.

Several ways of partially levitating permanent magnets are described. When displaced from their equilibrium position the magnets oscillate. The field line geometries are deduced theoretically and computationally. The oscillation frequencies are also computed and compared with experimental values.

Plasma Oscillations in a Magnetic Field
Journal of the Physical Society of Japan, 1965The small amplitude plasma oscillations of a fully ionized plasma, in which collisions are neglected, in a constant external magnetic field are studied by expanding the velocity distribution about its equilibrium value. Use is made of full set of Maxwell's equation.

Oscillations of a Plasma in a Magnetic Field
Physical Review, 1963The plasma oscillations of a high-temperature and a degenerate plasma, both with and without an applied magnetic field, are discussed using a Green function technique. For the high-temperature plasma in lowest order the results reduce to those obtained via the linearized BoltzmannVlasov equation in the classical limit.

The Magnetic Torque Oscillator and the Magnetic Piston
The Physics Teacher, 2007A magnet suspended in a uniform magnetic field like that of the Earth can be made to oscillate about the field. The frequency of oscillation depends on the strength (magnetic moment) of the magnet, that of the external field, and the moment of inertia of the magnet.

The magnetic vortex has sparked the interest of the academic and industrial communities over the last few decades. From their discovery in the 1970s for bubble memory devices to their modern application as radio frequency oscillators, magnetic vortices have been adopted to modern telecommunication and sensor applications.

Scope of Deliverables: This section reports the effects of magnetic fields on microbial populations. Mechanisms of inactivation and critical process factors are described. Results of microbial testing experiments are controversial. Consistent results concerning the efficacy of this method are needed before its potential use as a food preservation ...
