Bimetallic (NiFe) and Trimetallic (NiFeCr) Nanoalloys from Metal Oxides Using a Microwave Hydrogen Plasma

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Bimetallic (NiFe) and trimetallic (NiFeCr) nanoalloys (NAs) are synthesized using corresponding oxide mixtures using microwave hydrogen plasma within a few milliseconds. The process simultaneously 1) reduces metal oxides to metals; 2) downsizes the particles from micrometers to nanometers; and 3) blends the metals to form NAs.

Hydrothermal Synthesis of Novel Magnetic Plate-Like Bi2O2CO3/CoFe2O4 Hybrid Nanostructures and Their Catalytic Performance for the Reduction of Some Aromatic Nitrocompounds

open access: yesActa Chimica Slovenica, 2018
Novel magnetically separable Bi2O2CO3/CoFe2O4 nanocomposites were fabricated by a feasible hydrothermal route. Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray ...

Conjugate Hard X-ray Footpoints in the 2003 October 29 X10 Flare: Unshearing Motions, Correlations, and Asymmetries

open access: yes, 2008
We present a detailed imaging and spectroscopic study of the conjugate hard X-ray (HXR) footpoints (FPs) observed with RHESSI in the 2003 October 29 X10 flare.

Polarons, Dressed Molecules, and Itinerant Ferromagnetism in ultracold Fermi gases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In this review, we discuss the properties of a few impurity atoms immersed in a gas of ultracold fermions, the so-called Fermi polaron problem. On one side, this many-body system is appealing because it can be described almost exactly with simple ...

Sustainable Synthesis of Bio‐Based Magnetic and Conductive Wood for Electromagnetic Interference Shielding Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A wood‐based magnetic and conductive material called Magwood (MW), capable of blocking almost 99.99% of electromagnetic waves (in the X‐band frequency range), is synthesized using a simple, solvent‐free process. MW is lightweight, resists water, and is flame‐retardant, making it a promising alternative for shielding electronics. The rapid proliferation

Magneto-capacitance probing of the many-particle states in InAs dots

open access: yes, 2004
We use frequency-dependent capacitance-voltage spectroscopy to measure the tunneling probability into self-assembled InAs quantum dots. Using an in-plane magnetic field of variable strength and orientation, we are able to obtain information on the quasi ...

Population of Nonmetallic Inclusions in Liquid High‐Silicon Electrical Steel in Contact With MgO–C Refractories Based on Recyclates and Environmentally Friendly Binders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The formation of nonmetallic inclusions (NMIs) was investigated in this study, carrying out immersion tests for 30 min at a temperature of 1600°C with liquid high‐silicon electrical steel (Si ≈ 3 mass‐%) and different MgO–C refractories. Conventional MgO–C refractories were considered, as well as MgO–C refractories containing MgO–C recyclate and ...

New Tracer for Magnetic Particle Imaging - SPIONs encapsulated in RBCs

open access: yesCurrent Directions in Biomedical Engineering, 2018
Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles, so called SPIONs, are used as tracers in medical imaging, e. g. for magnetic particle imaging (MPI) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Anomalous Particle Size Dependence of Magnetic Relaxation Phenomena in Goethite Nanoparticles

open access: yesCroatica Chemica Acta, 2015
By use of Mössbauer spectroscopy we have studied the magnetic properties of samples of goethite nanoparticles with different particle size. The spectra are influenced by fluctuations of the magnetization directions, but the size dependence is not in ...
