Magnetic bearing as Switched Reluctance Motor - feasibility study for bearingless Switched Reluctance Motor

2013 International Electric Machines & Drives Conference, 2013
This paper shows a general review of Switched Reluctance Motors (SRM), reports the conversion of Active Magnetic Bearing (AMB) to SRM and discusses methods to estimate the torque produced in SRM. AMB converted to SRM has been tested on a laboratory scale test rig and its torque production measured.

Magnetic analysis of flux barriers Synchronous Reluctance Motors

2008 18th International Conference on Electrical Machines, 2008
Aim of the paper is to propose an analytical procedure that can be employed during the sizing of the synchronous reluctance motor with ldquoflux barriersrdquo rotor for motor performance prediction and could represent an alternative to the Finite Element approach.

Analysis of a Variable Reluctance Permanent Magnet Actuator

2007 IEEE Industry Applications Annual Meeting, 2007
This paper is concerned with the analysis of a variable reluctance permanent magnet linear actuator (VRPMA) for low-speed linear motion applications. The concept is a combination of the simple construction of the variable reluctance actuator with the permanent magnet actuator.

3D Magnetic Reluctivity Tensor of Soft Magnetic Composite Material

2006 12th Biennial IEEE Conference on Electromagnetic Field Computation, 2006
Soft magnetic composite (SMC) materials are particularly suitable for construction of electrical machines with complex structure and 3D magnetic flux. For design and analysis of such 3D flux machines, 3D magnetic properties of the magnetic materials should be properly determined, modeled and applied for calculating the magnetic field distribution ...

Comparison of Reluctance and Surface Permanent Magnet Coaxial Magnetic Gears

2020 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), 2020
The noncontact operation of magnetic gears offers significant potential advantages over mechanical gears. Reluctance magnetic gears (RMGs) have been proposed as an alternative to surface permanent magnet gears (SPMGs) at high speeds. This paper explains the operating principles of RMGs and provides a thorough parametric comparison between RMGs and ...

Design Aspects of a Reluctance-Based Magnetic Lead Screw

IEEE transactions on magnetics, 2019
This paper introduces a new type of reluctance-based magnetic lead screw (RBMLS) that is attractive for many potential applications. The proposed topology presents the implementation of discretized permanent magnets (PMs) and ferromagnetic semi-rings ...

Tensor Magnetic Reluctivity Properties of Soft Magnetic Composite Materials

2012 Sixth International Conference on Electromagnetic Field Problems and Applications, 2012
In order to comprehensively analyze the magnetic field distribution in rotating flux machines, a three dimensional (3-D) magnetic properties testing system fitting for cubic specimen has been constructed and modeled. This paper emphatically studies the tensor magnetic reluctivity properties based on measurement of soft magnetic composite (SMC ...

A permanent magnet‐assisted synchronous reluctance motor

Electrical Engineering in Japan, 2003
AbstractPermanent magnet motors have attracted a lot of attention recently for their potential for saving energy. However, they are only used for certain applications because the magnets are expensive. This paper discusses the optimum design of the low‐cost, highly efficient magnet‐ assisted reluctance motors with a minimum amount of magnets. The motor

Reading of magnetic records by reluctance variation

Proceedings of the IEE - Part B: Radio and Electronic Engineering, 1956
The paper describes a method of reading information recorded on a magnetic medium, in which the velocity of the medium can have a wide range of values including zero. Read signals are obtained by varying the reluctance of the reading head. With a head constructed according to this principle 50 binary digits per inch have been read from magnetic tape.
