Magnetic resonance imaging of the spine
Low back and neck pain are common and result in significant patient disability and health care expenditure. When conservative treatment fails or worrisome clinical findings are present, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the imaging modality of choice to assess the cause and complicating features of spine pain.

Comparison of structural magnetic resonance imaging findings between neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus and systemic lupus erythematosus patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis [PDF]
Introduction: Neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus is often clinically challenging to diagnose, treat and monitor. Although brain magnetic resonance imaging is frequently performed before lumbar puncture in neuropsychiatric systemic lupus ...

Progressive Myoclonus Epilepsy: Distinctive MRI Changes in Cerebellar and Motor Networks
ABSTRACT Objective Progressive myoclonus epilepsy (PME) is a rare generalized epilepsy syndrome with a well‐characterized genetic basis. The brain networks that are affected to give rise to the distinctive symptoms of PME are less well understood. Methods Eleven individuals with PME with a confirmed genetic diagnosis and 22 controls were studied.

Optically Detected Magnetic Resonance Imaging [PDF]
Optically detected magnetic resonance (ODMR) provides ultrasensitive means to detect and image a small number of electron and nuclear spins, down to the single spin level with nanoscale resolution. Despite the significant recent progress in this field, it has never been combined with the power of pulsed magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques. Here,

Imaging correlates of molecular signatures in oligodendrogliomas. [PDF]
Molecular subsets of oligodendroglioma behave in biologically distinct ways. Their locations in the brain, rates of growth, and responses to therapy differ with their genotypes. Retrospectively, we inquired whether allelic loss of chromosomal arms 1p and

Claustrum Volume Is Reduced in Multiple Sclerosis and Predicts Disability
ABSTRACT Objective The claustrum is a small, thin structure of predominantly gray matter with broad connectivity and enigmatic function. Little is known regarding the impact of claustrum pathology in multiple sclerosis (MS). Methods This study assessed whether claustrum volume was reduced in MS and whether reductions were associated with specific ...

Multiple diffusion metrics in differentiating solid glioma from brain inflammation
Background and purposeThe differential diagnosis between solid glioma and brain inflammation is necessary but sometimes difficult. We assessed the effectiveness of multiple diffusion metrics of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) in differentiating solid ...

A Quantum Mechanical Review of Magnetic Resonance Imaging [PDF]
In this paper, we review the quantum mechanics of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). We traverse its hierarchy of scales from the spin and orbital angular momentum of subatomic particles to the ensemble magnetization of tissue. And we review a number of modalities used in the assessment of acute ischemic stroke and traumatic brain injury.

ABSTRACT C‐truncating variants in the charged multivesicular body protein 2B (CHMP2B) gene are a rare cause of frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD), previously identified only in Denmark, Belgium, and China. We report a novel CHMP2B splice‐site variant (c.35‐1G>A) associated with familial FTLD in Spain. The cases were two monozygotic male twins who
