Magnetism of nanotwinned martensite in magnetic shape memory alloys

Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, 2020
Heusler-type magnetic shape memory alloys (MSMAs) exhibit a martensitic transformation (MT) accompanied by a complex magnetic reordering, strongly affected by an intricate martensitic microstructure. The hierarchic twin structure of martensite, formed as a result of minimization of elastic energy down to atomic scale, is under intensive study nowadays.

Magnetically driven shape memory alloys

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2004
Significant progress has been made both in experimentation and theoretical modelling of the magnetic shape memory (MSM) effect, where magnetic field can induce strains of 10%. The theoretical models used to analyze and interpret the different experiments provide reliable information and insight into the physical changes involved in the magnetically ...

Magnetization and shape memory effect of ferromagnetic shape memory alloy wire

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1999
Magnetization and shape memory effect (SME) of Fe-Mn-Cr-Si, magnetic shape memory alloy(SMA) have been investigated. The specimen used is a commercial product wire of diameter 1.2 mm. The properties largely depend on heat treatment conditions, so it is treated thermally under three different conditions. As a result, pre-heating before heat treatment is

Magnetically driven shape memory alloys

Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 2002
Abstract Magnetically driven shape memory alloys experience the martensitic transformation while being in a ferromagnetic state. Two-way shape memory can be achieved through the shift of martensite–austenite transition, and a giant magnetostriction could be obtained through the redistribution of martensitic variants under magnetic field.

Nonlinear dynamics of a magnetic shape memory alloy oscillator

Proceedings of the XIX International Symposium on Dynamic Problems of Mechanics, 2023
Abstract Magnetic shape memory alloys (MSMAs) constitute a class of smart materials capable of exhibiting large magnetic field induced strain (MFIS) when subjected to magnetomechanical loadings. Two distinct mechanisms are responsible for the induced strain: martensitic variant reorientation and phase transformation.
