Polymorphic MnAs nanowires of a magnetic shape memory alloy

open access: yesPhys. Chem. Chem. Phys., 2014
We describe a magnetic shape memory alloy, in which it is the nanostructural confinement that influences both the crystal geometry and the electronic and magnetic properties.

Electroactive Liquid Crystal Elastomers as Soft Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Electroactive liquid crystal elastomers (eLCEs) can be actuated via electromechanical, electrochemical, or electrothermal effects. a) Electromechanical effects include Maxwell stress, electrostriction, and the electroclinic effect. b) Electrochemical effects arise from electrode redox reactions.

Magnetic field induced strain assisted by stress in Ni-Fe-GaCo single crystals

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2010
Ferromagnetic shape memory alloys (FSMA) have the possibility to induced a strain by applying a magnetic field. The main advantage of the FSMA is that the strain cycling frequency is two orders of magnitude higher than coventional shape memory alloys ...

Spectrally Tunable 2D Material‐Based Infrared Photodetectors for Intelligent Optoelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Intelligent optoelectronics through spectral engineering of 2D material‐based infrared photodetectors. Abstract The evolution of intelligent optoelectronic systems is driven by artificial intelligence (AI). However, their practical realization hinges on the ability to dynamically capture and process optical signals across a broad infrared (IR) spectrum.

Autonomous generator based on Ni-Mn-Ga microactuator as a frequency selective element

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2013
In this work, we suggest the temperature-induced resistivity change at the martensitic transformation in the Ni-Mn-Ga ferromagnetic shape memory alloy as a driving mechanism enabling periodic signal generation. We demonstrated its practical importance by

Coherent phonon dynamics at the martensitic phase transition of Ni_2MnGa

open access: yes, 2012
We use time-resolved optical reflectivity to study the laser stimulated dynamics in the magnetic shape memory alloy Ni_2MnGa. We observe two coherent optical phonons, at 1.2 THz in the martensite phase and at 0.7 THz in the pre-martensite phase, which we

In Materia Shaping of Randomness with a Standard Complementary Metal‐Oxide‐Semiconductor Transistor for Task‐Adaptive Entropy Generation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study establishes a materials‐driven framework for entropy generation within standard CMOS technology. By electrically rebalancing gate‐oxide traps and Si‐channel defects in foundry‐fabricated FDSOI transistors, the work realizes in‐materia control of temporal correlation – achieving task adaptive entropy optimization for reinforcement learning ...

On magnetic shape memory alloy actuator characteristics

open access: yesJournal of Vibroengineering, 2009
Magnetic shape memory alloys (MSMA) are adaptive materials controlled with a magnetic field. A fast response, large magnetic field induced strain and high damping make MSMAs attractive materials for actuators. The aim of this study was to define the characteristics of a MSMA actuator and evaluate its suitability for vibration control.
