Magnetic field interactions in adjustable hydrocephalus shunts
Journal of Neurosurgery: Pediatrics, 2008Object Exposing patients with ventricular shunts to magnetic fields and MR imaging procedures poses a significant risk of unintentional changes in shunt settings. Shunt valves can also generate considerable imaging artifacts. The purpose of this study was to determine the magnetic field safety and MR imaging compatibility of 5 adjustable models of ...

Arrays of resistively shunted Josephson junctions in magnetic fields
Physical Review B, 1993A two-dimensional array of resistively shunted Josephson junctions in the presence of both applied external currents and transverse magnetic fields is studied both analytically and numerically. The dynamics of the system is specified by a set of Langevin equations, and leads to a stationary state, which can be described by an effective Hamiltonian. The

Magnetically programmable shunt valve: MRI at 3-Tesla
Magnetic Resonance Imaging, 2007A magnetically programmable cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) shunt valve (Codman Hakim Programmable Valve, Codman, a Johnson & Johnson Company, Raynham, MA) was assessed for magnetic field interactions, heating, artifacts and functional changes at 3-Tesla. The programmable valve showed minor magnetic field interactions and heating (+0.4 degrees C).

Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Cerebrospinal Fluid Shunt Valves
New England Journal of Medicine, 2005To the Editor: In about 80 percent of all cases of hydrocephalus, the accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid is treated with shunt valves.1 Over the past 30 years, magnetically adjustable valves have become widely accepted and routinely implanted devices. In central and northern Europe, adjustable valves are routinely implanted for about 40 percent of all

Evaluation of intracardiac shunts with cardiac magnetic resonance
Current Cardiology Reports, 2005Intracardiac shunts including atrial septal defect, ventricular septal defect, endocardial cushion defects, and surgical baffles may be identified, localized, and quantified using cardiac MRI methods. Both dark-blood and bright-blood techniques are helpful to identify anatomy.

Magnetic Resonance Angiography as a Technique for the Visualization of Hemodialysis Shunts
Nephron, 2008In order to test the suitability of magnetic resonance angiography for the visualization of Brescia-Cimino hemodialysis shunts, 20 patients (8 women, 12 men, aged 24-69 years) were examined with this technique. The shunt arm was placed in an extremity coil. The time-of-flight method was applied. Examination time was less than 15 min.

An In Vitro Study of Magnetic Field Interference with an Electronic Shunt Programmer
World Neurosurgery, 2022Programmable shunts play a valuable role in the treatment of hydrocephalus. However, the use of magnets in programming these valves has caused obstacles in today's magnetized world. Previous studies have reported problems with magnetic toys and electronics unintentionally reprogramming shunt valves.

Shunt protection for superconducting Maglev Magnets
Cryogenics, 1979Abstract Closely coupled, short-circuited shunt coils are proposed for quench protection of super-conducting Maglev magnets which use high resistance, matrix composite conductors. It is shown that, by suitable design, the shunts can reduce ac losses and that the changing currents during magnet energization or vehicle lift off and landing can be ...

The edge effects of magnetic shunts for a transformer tank
2011 International Conference on Electrical Machines and Systems, 2011Base on 3D finite element method a 3D electromagnetic model for a three-phase three-limb power transformer is given and analyzed. Such a model can give not only the correct load losses in windings, but also the satisfied stray losses with measured in the transformer tank. Influences of magnetic shunts on tank losses are discussed.
