Revisiting the solar wind structures contributing crucially to the main phase of the major geomagnetic storms in May 1997

open access: yesTerrestrial, Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences
We re-examined the contributions of the sheath region and the magnetic cloud to the main phase of the major geomagnetic storm on May 15, 1997. Our analysis revealed that the maximum values of the southward component of the interplanetary magnetic field ...

Response of the mid-latitude atmosphere to sporadic cosmic ray variations in the western Siberian region

open access: yesSolar-Terrestrial Physics
We have analyzed spatial and temporal variations in ionospheric parameters over high and middle latitudes of Eurasia, using data from chains of high- and mid-latitude ionosondes during a severe magnetic storm in March 2015.

IONOSPHERIC STORM OF AUGUST 5–6, 2011: CALCULATION OF MAIN EFFECTS

open access: yesRadio Physics and Radio Astronomy, 2014
Calculation of dynamic and thermal processes parameters during the severe magnetic storm of August 5–6, 2011 (Kp max=8−) are presented. The magnetic storm was accompanied by negative ionospheric disturbance over Kharkiv which caused a number of changes ...

Polarization‐Dependent Synaptic‐Like Electro‐Optical Response in Ferroelectric Nematic Liquid Crystals

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ferroelectric nematic liquid crystals (FNLCs) offer fast, tunable polarization and low‐voltage operation but suffer from poor polarization retention at zero field. Semiconductor‐modified FNLCs enhance polarization retention and exhibit short‐ and long‐term electro‐optical responses, while also supporting spike‐type signal integrations.

Radiation belt data assimilation of a moderate storm event using a magnetic field configuration from the physics-based RAM-SCB model [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2014
Data assimilation using Kalman filters provides an effective way of understanding both spatial and temporal variations in the outer electron radiation belt.

Charge Generation and Recombination Pathways in All‐Polymer Bulk Heterojunction Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Multimodal spectroscopy and device analysis reveal how field‐dependent charge generation, transport limitations, and non‐geminate recombination govern performance losses in all polymer solar cells. The results identify the key processes controlling charge extraction and recombination, providing insights for the design of more efficient all‐polymer ...

Ring current and auroral electrojets in connection with interplanetary medium parameters during magnetic storm [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 1994
The relationship between the auroral electrojet indices (AE) and the ring current magnetic field (DR) was investigated by observations obtained during the magnetic storm on 1-3 April 1973.

The Magnetic Storm [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1880
BY the mail just arrived from Australia I have received copies of the photographic traces produced by the declination magnetograph at the Melbourne Observatory during the magnetic storm of August 12 to 14, kindly forwarded by Mr. Ellery, the Government astronomer there.
