Understanding extracellular vesicle biology, isolation, and characterization: The theory of EV‐erything

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Extracellular vesicles (EVs), especially exosomes, are nanoparticles increasingly recognized as key regulators of intercellular communication in both physiological and pathological aspects. Despite rapid progress, inconsistencies in nomenclature, isolation, and characterization continue to restrict translational advancement.

Gut Microbiome Diversity, Functional Potential, and Ecological Relevance of Hottentotta tamulus

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 5, October 2026.
Long‐read 16S sequencing uncovers the gut microbiome of H. tamulus. A highly conserved and low‐diversity bacterial community dominates the gut fauna. Bacillus and Mycoplasma lineages emerge as predominant candidate endosymbionts. Exploratory profiles reveal potential sex‐specific trends in microbial abundance.

Transgenic Mixed‐Linkage‐Glucan Enhancement Affects Root Characteristics and Decomposition in Soils of Contrasting Vegetation History

open access: yesGCB Bioenergy, Volume 18, Issue 10, October 2026.
Incubations with fine and coarse roots of transgenic and wild type bioenergy sorghum showed that transgenic roots had higher content of mixed‐linkage glucan and resulted in greater soil microbial biomass than the roots of the vector control plants.

Toward Application of Nanodiamonds for In‐Situ Monitoring of Radicals in Liquid Phase Chemical Reactions

open access: yesphysica status solidi (a), Volume 223, Issue 18, 23 September 2026.
In many chemical reactions, short‐lived radical intermediates play a crucial role, while detecting them in situ remains challenging. The optically readable electronic spin of NV centers in diamond is a nanoscale sensor for such radical species. We demonstrate the successful in situ detection of the nitroxide radical 2,2,6,6‐TEMPO using NV center‐based ...

Cellular Responses to Mechanical Cues Across Scales: From Fundamental Insights to Translational Potential

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 15, Issue 35, 18 September 2026.
This review examines how cellular behavior is regulated by mechanical cues transmitted through soft biomaterials, from single‐cell mechanosensing to tissue‐level adaptation. It highlights why physiological relevance, rather than model complexity alone, is critical for translational mechanobiology and introduces a scoring framework linking material ...
