Nonlinear magneto-optical Kerr effects
Journal of Experimental and Theoretical Physics, 1999The polarization state of a second-harmonic wave after reflection from a semi-infinite, optically isotropic magnetic medium is considered for the three characteristic uniformmagnetization directions corresponding to the linear magneto-optical Kerr effects. Expressions for the complex amplitudes of the wave field which specify the nonlinear Kerr effects,

Surface magneto-optic Kerr effect (SMOKE)
Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 1999The purpose of this article is to stimulate interest in the power of the surface magneto-optic Kerr effect (SMOKE) technique to address a range of contemporary issues associated with the physics of interfacial magnetic materials. Magneto-optics is introduced from both historical and modern perspectives.

Magneto-Optic Kerr Effects in Gadolinium
Physical Review B, 1973An investigation of magneto-optic effects in gadolinium metal is reported. Samples prepared by vacuum evaporation were studied in situ under ultra-high-vacuum conditions to ensure clean optical surfaces. Magneto-optic Kerr rotation and ellipticity, determined using a null-type ellipsometric method, are used to calculate the magnetic contribution to the

Non-specular magneto-optical Kerr effect
Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 1995Abstract A grating coated with a magnetic film is illuminated by a laser beam and produces Bragg-diffracted beams. The non-zero-order beams, leaving the specimen, feature the magneto-optical Kerr effect just as well as the zero-order specular one.

Magneto-Optical Kerr Effect in Multiferroic Nanostructures
MRS Proceedings, 2006ABSTRACTWe report the study of the magneto-optical properties of composite multiferroic thin films composed of CoFe2O4 nanopillars embedded in a BiFeO3 matrix. The magneto-optical Kerr rotation and Kerr ellipticity in these films have been measured and are in good agreement with magnetization measurements.

Quantitative magneto-optical Kerr effect on titanomagnetites
Physics of the Earth and Planetary Interiors, 1990Abstract A new application of the magneto-optical Kerr effect is presented, which will allow, in the future, a semi- or fully quantitative analysis of the magnetization direction at every point of a (titano)magnetite surface. The stress-dominated anisotropy of Ti-rich titanomagnetites requires determination of all three components ( M x , M y

Magneto-optical Kerr effect in Pr monopnictides
Physical Review B, 2003The electronic and magneto-optical properties of Pr monopnictides have been studied from the self-consistent electronic structure calculation employing full potential linear muffin-tin orbital method. The local spin density approximation along with on site Coulomb interaction (LDA+U) is used for electronic structure calculation.

Magneto-optical diffraction and transverse Kerr effect
Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 1998Abstract The transverse non-specular magneto-optical Kerr effect was measured in diffraction from an inhomogeneous grating made of ferromagnetic Fe 0.75 Si 0.25 wires on a silicon substrate. The relative change in intensity of the diffracted beams when magnetisation is reversed (Δ I/I ) n shows a large enhancement (from 1.8 × 10 −2 up to 3 × 10 −

Magneto-optical transverse Kerr effect in multilayers
Physical Review B, 2001We present detailed theoretical and experimental analysis of the magneto-optic transverse Kerr effect in magnetic multilayers. The theoretical model is based upon a phenomenological permittivity tensor. From the general result, suitable only for numerical calculations, we derive several approximate analytical expressions in order to make a qualitative ...

Plasmonically Enhanced Transverse Magneto-Optical Kerr Effect
CLEO: 2013, 2013We demonstrate experimentally a plasmonic enhancement of the transverse magneto-optical Kerr effect. The enhanced Kerr effect modulates the transmitted light intensity by a large value of 1.5%, while high transparency of the system is maintained.
