Nonreciprocal Photonics Without Magneto-Optics

IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters, 2018
Optical isolators, which break the Lorentz reciprocity, are fundamental building blocks for regulating the flow of light. Here, we provide a brief perspective on the developments in nonmagnetic approaches to constructing optical isolators.

Solitons in magneto-optic waveguides

Applied Mathematics and Computation, 2004
The paper studies soliton-shaped approximate solutions of the generalized vector nonlinear Schrödinger equation. Differential equations are obtained describing the dynamics of the solution amplitude, width, frequency, center, and phase. It is shown that, in the perturbation limit, the energy of the associated flow is conserved.

A Theory of the Magneto-Optical Absorption

Progress of Theoretical Physics, 1961
A theory of the magneto-optical absorption is developed by means of the Luttinger and Kohn theory of the effect of magnetic field on the energy bands in the case of a simple band model. The main purpose is to study the absorption line shape. As the width of the ab sorption line we get a value which agrees with experiment.

Compact magneto-optical traps using planar optics

Chinese Physics B
Magneto-optical traps (MOTs) composed of magnetic fields and light fields have been widely utilized to cool and confine microscopic particles. Practical technology applications require miniaturized MOTs.

A Novel Magneto-Optical Effect

Science, 1921
EARLY in April last, while my son, Malcolm Thomson, was operating, in a building of the River Works plant of the General Electric Co., a resistance welder for closing the seams of steel Langmuir mercury vacuum pumps, in which work the current is applied and cut off at about one-half second intervals, there was noticed by one of the working force, Mr ...
