Analysis of magneto rheological elastomers for energy harvesting systems

International Journal of Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics, 2020
Magneto Rheological Elastomers (MREs) are composite materials based on an elastomer filled by magnetic particles. Anisotropic MRE can be easily manufactured by curing the material under homogeneous magnetic field which creates column of particles. The magnetic and elastic properties are actually coupled making these MREs suitable for energy conversion.

Pseudo-Villari Experimental Characterization of Magneto-Rheological Elastomers

2020
Magneto-rheological elastomers (MRE) are composite materials with magnetically polarized particles dispersed in an elastomeric soft matrix. These materials are an important branch of the smart material family being the mechanical and rheological properties can be reversibly changed upon exposure to a magnetic field.

Evaluation of magneto-rheological elastomers for spacecrafts

2011
This study focuses on the stiffness controllability of magneto-rheological elastomer (MRE) but also on the damping dependency with the magnetic field. It is well known that elastomer visco-elastic behavior is highlighted by elliptic hysteresis loops. Force-deflection loops of MRE were measured for different amplitudes and frequencies conditions.

Nonlinear dynamic characteristics of magneto-rheological visco-elastomers

Science China Technological Sciences, 2013
The smart magneto-rheological visco-elastomer (MRVE) has a promising application to vibration control. Its dynamic characteristics are described by complex moduli which are applicable to linear dynamics. However, experimental results show remarkable nonlinear relations between force and deformation for certain large deformations, and the nonlinear ...

A Vibration Isolator Based on Magneto-Rheological Elastomer

2016
The paper presents an investigation about a magneto-rheological elastomeric (MRE) pad to be adopted as seismic semi-active isolator for lightweight structures. MRE pad may change its stiffness if immersed in a magnetic field. This characteristic allows to real time shift the fundamental frequency of the isolated structure. In this way it is possible to

Dynamic Testing and Modeling of Magneto-Rheological Elastomers

Volume 1: Active Materials, Mechanics and Behavior; Modeling, Simulation and Control, 2009
This study presents the dynamic numerical model of magneto-rheological elastomers (MREs) along with the dynamic testing of the material under various loading conditions. Primarily the loading in shear mode is considered in this study because many civil engineering structures are subjected to shear loading.

Magnetomechanical Behavior on Fe/Polyurethane Magneto Rheological Elastomers

2009 Fifth International Conference on MEMS NANO, and Smart Systems, 2009
The elastic modulus and shear stress of the Fe-PU Magneto Rheological Elastomers (MRE) have been mechanically characterized by a custom made experimental set up attached with the conventional Universal Testing Machine (UTM). This set up has the ability to generate magnetic field on its own so as to influence the size of the particle and volume fraction

Controllable magneto-rheological elastomer vibration isolator

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2007
A tunable vibration isolation device comprising a magneto-rheological elastomer (MRE), and methods of using such a device, are provided. By manipulating a magnetic field within the MRE the device's stiffness is controlled. The vibration isolator can be constructed to provide shock absorption in one, two and three dimensions. Coupling the tunable device

Characteristics of Magneto-Rheological Elastomer under Stick-Slip Condition

Key Engineering Materials, 2020
This paper examines the characteristics of stick-slip phenomena between the glass plate and Magneto-Rheological Elastomer (MRE) surface. Stick-slip phenomena are the spontaneous jerking motion that occurs while two objects are sliding over each other, usually accompanied by noise.

Two-dimensional magnetic property measurement for magneto-rheological elastomer

Journal of Applied Physics, 2013
Magneto-rheological elastomer (MRE) is a new kind of smart material. Its rheological properties can be altered and controlled in a real time manner when it is applied an external magnetic field. For calculating magnetic properties of MRE material, usually Maxwell-Garnet equation is used to acquire an approximately effective permeability.
