Large magnetoelectric coupling in Co4Nb2O9. [PDF]
Magnetoelectric materials which simultaneously exhibit electric polarization and magnetism have attracted more and more attention due to their novel physical properties and promising applications for next-generation devices. Exploring new materials with outstanding magnetoelectric performance, especially the manipulation of magnetization by electric ...

Realizing Magnetoelectric Coupling with Hydrogen Intercalation [PDF]
Materials with a coexistence of magnetic and ferroelectric order (i.e., multiferroics) provide an efficient route for the control of magnetism by electric fields. Unfortunately, a long-sought room temperature multiferroic with strongly coupled ferroelectric and ferromagnetic (or ferrimagnetic) orderings is still lacking.

Orbital magnetoelectric coupling in band insulators [PDF]
Magnetoelectric responses are a fundamental characteristic of materials that break time-reversal and inversion symmetries (notably multiferroics) and, remarkably, of "topological insulators" in which those symmetries are unbroken. Previous work has shown how to compute spin and lattice contributions to the magnetoelectric tensor.

Chern-Simons orbital magnetoelectric coupling in generic insulators [PDF]
We present a Wannier-based method to calculate the Chern-Simons orbital magnetoelectric coupling in the framework of first-principles density-functional theory.

Theory of the magnetoeletric effect in a lightly doped high-Tc cuprate [PDF]
In a recent study Viskadourakis et al. discovered that extremely underdoped La_2CuO_(4+x) is a relaxor ferroelectric and a magnetoelectric material at low temperatures. It is further observed that the magnetoelectric response is anisotropic for different

Magnetoelectric coupling on fused azulene oligomers
The global magnetic phase diagram for fused azulene oligomers is obtained by using a fermionic Hubbard model, which is an intermediate between the molecular Pariser-Parr-Pople empiric Hamiltonian and the spin-1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model. We employ the density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) approach to explore the ground state properties

Interfacial magnetoelectric coupling in tricomponent superlattices [PDF]
Using first-principles density functional theory, we investigate the interfacial magnetoelectric coupling in a tri-component superlattice composed of a ferromagnetic metal (FM), ferroelectric (FE), and normal metal (NM). Using Fe/FE/Pt as a model system, we show that a net and cumulative interfacial magnetization is induced in the FM metal near the FM ...

Magnetoelectric coupling of LaFeO3/BiFeO3 heterostructures [PDF]
Abstract BiFeO3 (BFO) and LaFeO3 (LFO) heterostructures were obtained at room temperature on Pt/TiO2/SiO2/Si (100) substrates by chemical solution deposition. The films were coherently grown at a temperature of 500 °C for 2 h. The magnetoelectric coefficient measurement was performed to show magnetoelectric coupling behavior of such heterostructures.

Magnetoelectric coupling at metal surfaces
Magnetoelectric coupling allows the magnetic state of a material to be changed by an applied electric field. To date, this phenomenon has mainly been observed in insulating materials such as complex multiferroic oxides. Bulk metallic systems do not exhibit magnetoelectric coupling, because applied electric fields are screened by conduction electrons ...

Magnetoelectric Coupling Induced by Interfacial Orbital Reconstruction [PDF]
The magnetoelectric coupling effect with profound physics and enormous potential applications has provoked a great number of research activities in materials science. Here, we report that the reversible orbital reconstruction driven by ferroelectric polarization modulates the magnetic performance of ferroelectric ferromagnetic heterostructure.
