Magnetoelectric Effect in Polar Superconductors

Physical Review Letters, 1995
The question of how the lack of spatial reflection symmetry can affect properties of a superconductor is investigated. A novel magnetoelectric effect is predicted: The supercurrent in a metal of polar symmetry must be accompanied by the spin polarization of the carriers. The relevance to some known pyro- and antipyroelectric superconductors including a

Magnetoelectric Effects in Antiferromagnetics

Journal of Applied Physics, 1962
Spin-ordered materials may exhibit a magnetic polarization which is proportional to an applied electric field and an electric polarization which is proportional to an applied magnetic field. In this paper a comprehensive discussion is given of the present knowledge of these magnetoelectric (ME) effects.

Magnetoelectric Effect for Phonons

2021
The phonon angular momentum for each mode \(\mathbf {l}_{\sigma }\) is an odd (even) function of phonon wave vector \(\mathbf {k}\) when the system has time-reversal (inversion) symmetry. Thus, to make phonon angular momentum nonzero \(\mathbf {l}_{\sigma }(\mathbf {k})\ne 0\), at least one of these symmetries must be broken.

Multiplied magnetoelectric effect in multi-faceted magnetoelectric composite

Applied Physics Letters, 2014
A four-faceted magnetoelectric (ME) composite consisting of one cuboid bonded Terfenol-D composite and four plates of Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 (PZT) was fabricated. The ME voltage coefficients were measured along the length direction of the composite when PZT plates were parallelly or serially connected.

On the magnetoelectric effect in LiNiPO4

Low Temperature Physics, 2000
It is shown that the “butterfly” magnetoelectric hysteresis loop usually associated with the presence of a spontaneous magnetic moment in a crystal can also be observed in the case of an “angled cross” type of antiferromagnetic ordering of the spins. The magnetoelectric hysteresis observed in LiNiPO4 is explained by the cross-shaped antiferromagnetic ...

Theoretical investigation of magnetoelectric effect in multilayer magnetoelectric composites

Composite Structures, 2015
Abstract The aim of this paper is the modeling of an arbitrary magneto–elasto-electric multilayer constitute by magnetostrictive, piezoelectric and elastic substrate layers under free–free boundary conditions. A dynamic theory corresponding to the driving frequency of magnetoelectric (ME) response coupled flexural and extensional oscillations was ...

Interface Effects on the Magnetoelectric Properties of Magnetoelectric Multilayer Composites

Chinese Physics Letters, 2015
The magnetoelectric (ME) effect is studied in the terfenol-D/Pb(Zr, Ti)O3 (PZT) multilayer composites prepared by silver epoxy. A theoretical model reveals that the ME voltage coefficient αE,31 is a constant when the total thickness of the multilayer composites is the same.

Quadratic magnetoelectric effect and the role of the magnetocaloric effect in the magnetoelectric properties of multiferroic BaMnF4

Journal of Experimental and Theoretical Physics, 2009
The magnetoelectric effects in BaMnF4 in magnetic fields up to 250 kOe are experimentally studied and theoretically analyzed using the magnetic symmetry of the crystal. The presence of quadratic magnetoelectric effect tensor components that correspond to the electric polarization components along the b and c axes indicates triclinic distortions in the ...

Effect of magnetic bias field on magnetoelectric coupling in magnetoelectric composites

Journal of Applied Physics, 2003
The effect of dc magnetic bias field on the magnetoelectric coupling of a two-component magnetoelectric composite structure is investigated numerically using the finite-element method, in which the nonlinear magnetostress coupling for the magnetostrictive component is taken into account. It is shown that the magnetostress coupling coefficient increases
