On the sensing of magnetorheological elastomers
SPIE Proceedings, 2013In this study, combined effects of magnetic fields and applied mechanical compression load on the electrical resistivity behavior of magnetorheological elastomers (MREs) is studied. MREs with different particle volume percentages are prepared and tested under constant temperature.

Magnetorheological Elastomers: A Review
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014This present paper reviews on the material compositions of Magnetorheological elastomer (MRE) as presented by researchers. As the article review, this paper much focuses on the selection of the material in the MRE ingredients. MRE has been known as a new kind of smart material over past decades.

Thick magnetorheological elastomers
SPIE Proceedings, 2011ABSTRACT In the present study, two types of MRE with different concentrations, and circular and rectangular shapes having thicknesses from 6.35mm to a maximum of 25.4mm are prepared. These samples are tested under quasi-static compression and quasi-static double lap shear.

A review on magnetorheological elastomers
Advances in Engineering Technology Research, 2023Magnetorheological Elastomers (MREs) are a type of magnetorheological (MR) material, which is a combination of magnetic particles and a soft elastic matrix. As a new class of intelligent material, MREs possess controllability, reversibility, rapid response as well as stability under magnetic fields.

Mesoscopic magnetomechanical hysteresis in a magnetorheological elastomer
Physical Review E, 2015Field-induced magnetostatic interaction in a pair of identical particles made of a magnetically soft ferromagnet is studied. It is shown that due to saturation of the ferromagnet magnetization, this case differs significantly from the (super)paramagnetic one.

Model of magnetorheological elastomers
Journal of Applied Physics, 1999Magnetorheological elastomers consist of natural or synthetic rubber filled with micron-sized magnetizable particles. During curing of the elastomer, an applied magnetic field aligns the particles into chains. The shear modulus of the resulting cured material is sensitive to magnetic fields of several kOe magnitude.

Magnetorheological Elastomer Composites
2011Smart composites based on carbonyl iron powder, micro and nano size Fe3O4 in ethylene – propylene and acrylonitrile – butadiene rubber were manufactured and studied. Elastomer samples with various volume fractions of magnetic particles were tested. To improve dispersion of applied fillers in polymer matrix, ionic liquids were added during the process ...

Damping Properties of Magnetorheological Elastomers
Advanced Materials Research, 2017Magnetorheological elastomers (MREs) are a kind of smart materials, which change the mechanical properties (viscoelastic characteristics) under the magnetic field action. In the paper the determination of damping properties (reactive force) of specimens made out of magnetorheological elastomers is presented.

Sensing Behavior of Magnetorheological Elastomers
Journal of Mechanical Design, 2009A magnetorheological elastomer (MRE) is comprised of ferromagnetic particles aligned in a polymer medium by exposure to a magnetic field. The structures of the magnetic particles within elastomers are very sensitive to the external stimulus of either mechanical force or magnetic field, which result in multiresponse behaviors in a MRE.

A hybrid magnetorheological elastomer developed by encapsulation of magnetorheological fluid
Journal of Materials Science, 2018A new hybrid MR elastomer was fabricated by encapsulating a magnetorheological fluid (MR fluid) within a UV-curable silicone elastomer. A strong magneto-deformation effect was observed where the hybrid MR elastomer changed its shape in the presence of a magnetic field.
