Magnetospheric turbulence and properties of magnetospheric dynamics

Advances in Space Research, 2008
Abstract High level of turbulence is one of the main peculiarities inherent to magnetospheric dynamics. Mechanisms for generation of magnetospheric turbulence are analyzed. The instabilities in the plasma pressure distribution are examined as source of large and medium scale modes in the turbulence spectra.

Electric field structures and waves at plasma boundaries in the inner magnetosphere

, 2015
Recent observations by the Van Allen Probes spacecraft have demonstrated that a variety of electric field structures and nonlinear waves frequently occur in the inner terrestrial magnetosphere, including phase space holes, kinetic field line resonances ...

A survey of low-energy electrons in the evening sector of the magnetosphere with OGO 1 and OGO 3.

, 1968
Observations of electrons of energy 125 ev to ∼2 kev with the OGO 1 satellite and of electrons of energy 40 ev to ∼2 kev with OGO 3 (by means of modulated Faraday cup detectors) are used to investigate the low-energy electron population in the ...

Callisto in the Magnetosphere of Jupiter

Solar System Research, 2020
The study of the Galilean satellites can help clarify the structure of the magnetospheric magnetic field from observations of their projections along magnetic field lines in the atmosphere/ionosphere of Jupiter, where patches of auroras appear. UV auroras in projections on the ionosphere of Io, Europe and Ganymede occur almost permanently, while the ...

The Terrestrial Magnetosphere

1998
A magnetosphere is shaped by the interaction between a planetary magnetic field and the solar wind. The magnetopause is a discontinuity separating both fields, forming a cavity in the solar wind. Since the solar wind is a supersonic flow, a standing shock wave, the bow shock, develops in front of the magnetopause.

Magnetosphere‐Ionosphere Interactions: A Tutorial Review

, 2013
We review the basic physics of the field-aligned current (FAC) systems which transmit energy and stress between the magnetosheathmagnetosphere system, and the ionosphere-thermosphere system.

An ISEE/Whistler model of equatorial electron density in the magnetosphere

, 1992
An empirical model of equatorial electron density in the magnetosphere has been developed, covering the range 2.25 < L < 8. Although the model is primarily intended for application to the local time interval {approximately}00-15 MLT and to situations in ...
