Genetic and ultrastructural analysis reveals the key players and initial steps of bacterial magnetosome membrane biogenesis [PDF]
Magnetosomes of magnetotactic bacteria contain well-ordered nanocrystals for magnetic navigation and have recently emerged as the most sophisticated model system to study the formation of membrane bounded organelles in prokaryotes.

Off-axis electron holography of bacterial cells and magnetic nanoparticles in liquid [PDF]
The mapping of electrostatic potentials and magnetic fields in liquids usingelectron holography has been considered to be unrealistic. Here, we showthat hydrated cells ofMagnetospirillum magneticumstrain AMB-1 and assem-blies of magnetic nanoparticles ...

Magnetic genes: Studying the genetics of biomineralization in magnetotactic bacteria. [PDF]
Many species of bacteria can manufacture materials on a finer scale than those that are synthetically made. These products are often produced within intracellular compartments that bear many hallmarks of eukaryotic organelles.

Long-term observation of Magnetospirillum gryphiswaldense in a microfluidic channel [PDF]
We controlled and observed individual magnetotactic bacteria (Magnetospirillum gryphiswaldense) inside a 5 m high microfluidic channel for over four hours. After a period of constant velocity, the duration of which varied between bacteria, all observed bacteria showed a gradual decrease in their velocity of about 25 nm/s$^2$.

Formation of Core-Shell Nanoparticles Composed of Magnetite and Samarium Oxide in Magnetospirillum magneticum Strain RSS-1. [PDF]
Magnetotactic bacteria (MTB) synthesize magnetosomes composed of membrane-enveloped magnetite (Fe3O4) or greigite (Fe3S4) particles in the cells. Recently, several studies have shown some possibilities of controlling the biomineralization process and ...
