CLONING OF A GENE ENCODING PROTEIN BELONGING TO ABC TRANSPORTER INVOLVED IN BACTERIAL MAGNETIC PARTICLE SYNTHESIS IN MAGNETOSPIRILLUM MAGNETICUM AMB-1

open access: yesBiotropia: The Southeast Asian Journal of Tropical Biology, 2009
Magnetospirillum magneticum AMB-1 synthesizes intracellular magnetic particles, magnetite (Fe3 O4 ), enveloped by membrane called magnetosome under micro-aerobic conditions.

Genetic and ultrastructural analysis reveals the key players and initial steps of bacterial magnetosome membrane biogenesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Magnetosomes of magnetotactic bacteria contain well-ordered nanocrystals for magnetic navigation and have recently emerged as the most sophisticated model system to study the formation of membrane bounded organelles in prokaryotes.

Off-axis electron holography of bacterial cells and magnetic nanoparticles in liquid [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The mapping of electrostatic potentials and magnetic fields in liquids usingelectron holography has been considered to be unrealistic. Here, we showthat hydrated cells ofMagnetospirillum magneticumstrain AMB-1 and assem-blies of magnetic nanoparticles ...

Magnetic genes: Studying the genetics of biomineralization in magnetotactic bacteria. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Many species of bacteria can manufacture materials on a finer scale than those that are synthetically made. These products are often produced within intracellular compartments that bear many hallmarks of eukaryotic organelles.

Long-term observation of Magnetospirillum gryphiswaldense in a microfluidic channel [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Microbiology, 2019
We controlled and observed individual magnetotactic bacteria (Magnetospirillum gryphiswaldense) inside a 5 m high microfluidic channel for over four hours. After a period of constant velocity, the duration of which varied between bacteria, all observed bacteria showed a gradual decrease in their velocity of about 25 nm/s$^2$.

Formation of Core-Shell Nanoparticles Composed of Magnetite and Samarium Oxide in Magnetospirillum magneticum Strain RSS-1. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Magnetotactic bacteria (MTB) synthesize magnetosomes composed of membrane-enveloped magnetite (Fe3O4) or greigite (Fe3S4) particles in the cells. Recently, several studies have shown some possibilities of controlling the biomineralization process and ...

Spatially resolved GHz magnetization dynamics of a magnetite nano-particle chain inside a magnetotactic bacterium

open access: yesPhysical Review Research, 2021
Understanding magnonic properties of nonperiodic magnetic nanostructures requires real-space imaging of ferromagnetic resonance modes with spatial resolution well below the optical diffraction limit and sampling rates in the 5–100 GHz range.

Physiological characteristics of Magnetospirillum gryphiswaldense MSR-1 that control cell growth under high-iron and low-oxygen conditions

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Magnetosome formation by Magnetospirillum gryphiswaldense MSR-1 is dependent on iron and oxygen levels. We used transcriptome to evaluate transcriptional profiles of magnetic and non-magnetic MSR-1 cells cultured under high-iron and low-iron conditions ...

Spatially-resolved dynamic sampling of different phasic magnetic resonances of nanoparticle ensembles in a magnetotactic bacterium Magnetospirillum magnetotacticum

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2023
Nanoscaled magnetic particle ensembles are promising building blocks for realizing magnon based binary logic. Element-specific real-space monitoring of magnetic resonance modes with sampling rates in the GHz regime is imperative for the experimental ...
