On the stationary state of a plasma in magnetostatic and potential fields II

The density distribution on the lines of force of the magnetostatic field is established under certain simplifying conditions for a plasma bounded by a combination of a magnetostatic and a potential field. The distribution functions of the particles, too, are determined for some of the cases being examined.

On the energy of a magnetostatic field

Certain facts cast some doubt upon the ‘plus’ sign of the term for the energy flux of a magnetostatic field in the Poynting formula. To cite an example, consider two equal point charges moving uniformly with equal velocities. Generally the electric repulsive forces act on the charges, being directed along the line connecting them.

A magnetostatic sunspot model with ?twisted? field

It is shown that the internal structure of sunspots is affected only to a small degree by the presence of the azimuthal component of the sunspot magnetic field. The magnetostatic theory of sunspots developed by Schluter and Temesvary (1958) is extended to include such an effect.
