Risks of concealing environmental degradation

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 40, Issue 5, October 2026.
Abstract Current practice seeks to conceal the visual impact of land‐use change (i.e., development). Six percent of development impact assessments in Australia and 14% of the World Bank's assessments recommend visual impact mitigation. This mitigation results in, for example, vegetated buffer strips alongside cleared agricultural areas and earthen ...

Lie Pseudogroups à la Cartan from a Modern Perspective [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In 1904-05, the mathematician Élie Cartan published two pioneer papers in which he introduced a structure theory for Lie pseudogroups. Lie pseudogroups are mathematical objects that appear in both differential geometry and in the theory of differential ...

Predictive evolutionary genomics: principles, validation, and practice

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 252, Issue 1, Page 36-48, October 2026.
Summary Climate change and habitat loss are driving rapid evolutionary responses in populations world‐wide, which creates an urgent need for evolutionary forecasting in conservation and agriculture. Such forecasting can be categorized into three time scales: trait‐based models that use multivariate quantitative genetic equations to project correlated ...

Trust in the Machine? Practitioner Perspectives on the Role of AI in Online Content Moderation

open access: yesPolicy &Internet, Volume 18, Issue 3, September 2026.
ABSTRACT The scale and volume of user‐generated content produced in the Web 2.0 era have led to content moderation becoming an essential aspect of most online platforms' business models. This form of digital labour is often performed by human content moderators (CMs) in the Global South, however, artificial intelligence (AI) technology has increasingly

On what has been called Leibniz’s rigorous foundation of infinitesimal geometry by means of Riemannian sums [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
A number of scholars have recently maintained that a theorem in an unpublished treatise by Leibniz written in 1675 establishes a rigorous foundation for the infinitesimal calculus.

Universal Metric for Assessing the Magnitude of the Uncertainty in the Measurement of Fundamental Physical Constants

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics and Physics, 2017
In this paper, we aim to verify the numerical magnitude of the relative uncertainty in the measurement of fundamental physical constants. For this purpose, we use a metric called comparative uncertainty with which an a priori mismatch between the selected model and the observed physical object is checked.
