Minimum Magnitude of Completeness and Rates of Seismicity in the New Madrid Region

Seismological Research Letters, 1992
Abstract We apply the Schuster test to an augmented Central Mississippi Valley (CMV) seismic catalog to determine the minimum magnitude of completeness (MMC). We test the null hypothesis that the events in the catalog are distributed as a Poissonian process at a period of 24 hours. The test is based, in part, on the assumption that event

The spatiotemporal analysis of the minimum magnitude of completeness Mc and the Gutenberg–Richter law b-value parameter using the earthquake catalog of Greece

open access: yesIzvestiya, Physics of the Solid Earth, 2016
Spatiotemporal mapping the minimum magnitude of completeness Mc and b-value of the Gutenberg–Richter law is conducted for the earthquake catalog data of Greece. The data were recorded by the seismic network of the Institute of Geodynamics of the National

Detection capability of seismic network based on noise analysis and magnitude of completeness

Journal of Seismology, 2013
Assessing the detection threshold of seismic networks becomes of increased importance namely in the context of monitoring induced seismicity due to underground operations. Achieving the maximum possible sensitivity of industrial seismic monitoring is a precondition for successful control of technological procedures.

Assessing the Quality of Earthquake Catalogues: Estimating the Magnitude of Completeness and Its Uncertainty

Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 2005
We introduce a new method to determine the magnitude of complete- ness Mc and its uncertainty. Our method models the entire magnitude range (EMR method) consisting of the self-similar complete part of the frequency-magnitude dis- tribution and the incomplete portion, thus providing a comprehensive seismicity model.
