Flower visitors to cherimoya, Annona cherimola (Magnoliales: Annonaceae) in Japan

open access: yesApplied Entomology and Zoology, 2005
The cherimoya is an orchard tree that is not pollinated by bees. To identify likely pollinators, and to describe community diversity, we surveyed flower visitors at four sites in Wakayama and Mie prefectures, and found 569 individuals from 31 species of arthropods. Two of these species were arachnid and the others were insects.

The Genome of Phoebe zhennan (Lauraceae) and Comparative Genomics of Phoebe 楠木(樟科)基因组与楠属植物比较基因组学研究

open access: yesIntegrative Conservation, Volume 4, Issue 4, Page 584-599, December 2025.
Phoebe zhennan is a Chinese endemic and valuable timber species of Phoebe (Lauraceae). We present a chromosome‐level genome assembly of P. zhennan. Our research provides novel insights into the genome evolution of Phoebe, including whole‐genome duplication, phylogenetic relationships of magnoliids, and key MYB regulatory genes involved in lignin ...

Dual Isotope Analysis Reveals Phylogenetic Patterns and Novel Insights Into Methoxy Group Synthesis of Structural Biomolecules in Leaf and Woody Plant Tissues

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, Volume 48, Issue 12, Page 8483-8501, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Stable carbon and hydrogen isotopes of wood methoxy groups (δ2Hmeth, δ13Cmeth), mainly sourced by structural biomolecules like lignin and pectin, provide important insights into climatic, hydrological and physiological conditions. This study systematically investigated species‐specific δ2Hmeth and δ13Cmeth variations in leaves and woody twigs ...

Spermatophyta Molecular Clock: Time Drift and Recent Acceleration

open access: yesPlant-Environment Interactions, Volume 6, Issue 5, October 2025.
Exponential increase in the base substitution rate in recent geologic time. ABSTRACT Angiospermae radiation is widely recognized as a mid‐Cretaceous event, but the adaptive radiation of Asarum and Viola as spring ephemerals also occurred during the Quaternary. To better understand the evolution of Angiospermae through geological time, a robust and well‐

The stepwise rise of angiosperm‐dominated terrestrial ecosystems

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 100, Issue 5, Page 2131-2149, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Angiosperms are the most diverse and abundant plant taxon today and dominate the majority of Earth's terrestrial ecosystems. They underwent rapid divergence and biogeographic expansion from the early to the middle Cretaceous. Yet, transformative ecosystem change brought about by the increased ecological dominance of angiosperms unfolded ...

Phylogeny, Molecular and Fossil Dating, and Biogeographic History of Annonaceae and Myristicaceae (Magnoliales) [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Plant Sciences, 2004
Annonaceae and Myristicaceae, the two largest families of Magnoliales, are pantropical groups of uncertain geographic history. The most recent morphological and molecular phylogenetic analyses identify the Asian‐American genus Anaxagorea as sister to all other Annonaceae and the ambavioids, consisting of small genera endemic to South America, Africa ...

Patterns and Drivers of Phylogenetic Beta Diversity in the Forests and Savannas of Africa

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 52, Issue 7, July 2025.
ABSTRACT Aim Studying beta diversity, or the variation in species composition among communities, can give insights into plant community assembly over space and time. If different biomes show contrasting large‐scale beta‐diversity patterns, this can indicate divergent evolutionary histories or ecological processes that then drive species turnover among ...

Seed‐dispersing vertebrates and the abiotic environment shape functional diversity of the pantropical Annonaceae

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 246, Issue 5, Page 2263-2279, June 2025.
Summary Mutualistic interactions between fruiting plants and frugivorous animals are shaped by interaction‐relevant functional traits. However, it is unclear whether ‘trait matching’ underlies broad‐scale relationships in plant and frugivore species and their functional diversity. We integrated novel trait data and global occurrences for c.
