Attraction of Pollinators to Atemoya (Magnoliales: Annonaceae) in Puerto Rico: A Synergistic Approach Using Multiple Nitidulid Lures [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Economic Entomology, 2013
Atemoya, a hybrid between Annona squamosa (L.) and A. cherimola Miller (Annonaceae), has potential to be a major fruit crop in tropical and subtropical areas. A major setback to fruit production throughout the world is low fruit-set because of inadequate pollinator visits, typically Nitidulidae beetles.

Land‐use changes impact root–fungal network connectivity in a global biodiversity hotspot

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 113, Issue 5, Page 1136-1149, May 2025.
Dimensioning the impacts of rainforest transformations below‐ground is constrained by our understanding of fungal functional guilds. Highly modified systems exhibited fewer connections, suggesting a dynamic restructuring of root–fungal relationships in response to land‐use changes.

Phenolic metabolism in Sarcandra glabra is mediated by distinct BAHD hydroxycinnamoyltransferases

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, Volume 121, Issue 5, March 2025.
Significance Statement Four genes and enzymes involved in the formation of hydroxycinnamoyl esters with shikimic, quinic, hydroxyphenyllactic, and benzoic acids as well as amides with hydroxyanthranilic and d‐amino acids were identified in Sarcandra glabra (Chloranthaceae), placed in a sister clade of the magnoliids.

Systematic revision of Myristicaceae (Magnoliales) in Madagascar, with four new species of Mauloutchia [PDF]

open access: yesBotanical Journal of the Linnean Society, 2004
The systematics of Malagasy Myristicaceae is revised to take into account new collections made since the work by Capuron in the 1970s, as well as improved knowledge from fieldwork and two scanning electron microscopy studies by the author. Four new species are described: Mauloutchia annickiae Sauquet, M. capuronii Sauquet, M.

Computational metabolomics reveals overlooked chemodiversity of alkaloid scaffolds in Piper fimbriulatum

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, Volume 121, Issue 5, March 2025.
SUMMARY Plant specialized metabolites play key roles in diverse physiological processes and ecological interactions. Identifying structurally novel metabolites, as well as discovering known compounds in new species, is often crucial for answering broader biological questions.

Toward a phylogenomic classification of magnoliids

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, Volume 112, Issue 1, January 2025.
Abstract Premise Magnoliids are a strongly supported clade of angiosperms. Previous phylogenetic studies based primarily on analyses of a limited number of mostly plastid markers have led to the current classification of magnoliids into four orders and 18 families. However, uncertainty remains regarding the placement of several families.

First report of the fruit-piercing moth, Gonodonta nutrix Stoll, 1780 (Lepidoptera: Erebidae) in Colombia, with notes on its morphology and biology

open access: yesRevista Chilena de Entomología
In February 2023, an outbreak of lepidopteran larvae was observed on a soursop grove (Annona muricata L.; Magnoliales: Annonaceae) at the Agrosavia Palmira Research Station in Valle del Cauca, Colombia.

Nymphicidal effect of vegetal extracts of Annona mucosa and Anonna crassiflora (Magnoliales, Annonaceae) against rice stalk stink bug, Tibraca limbativentris (Hemiptera, Pentatomidae)

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Fruticultura, 2014
This study aimed to verify the chloroform-methanol nymphicidal action of extracts of Annona mucosa leaves and seeds and of A. crassiflora seeds on second instar nymphs of rice stalk stink bug, Tibraca limbativentris.

Unraveling Biogeographic Boundaries Within the Sierra Madre Oriental, México: An Endemicity Analysis Using a Taxonomically Diverse Dataset

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 1, January 2025.
We provide boundaries of the Sierra Madre Oriental in Mexico through a multi‐taxa endemicity analysis. ABSTRACT The Sierra Madre Oriental (SMO) is a significant mountain range and one of Mexico's 14 biogeographical provinces. Its delimitation has been debated.

Phylogenetic analysis of local-scale tree soil associations in a lowland moist tropical forest.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2010
BackgroundLocal plant-soil associations are commonly studied at the species-level, while associations at the level of nodes within a phylogeny have been less well explored.
