Deformation bands and the history of folding in the Magura nappe, Western Outer Carpathians (Poland)
Tectonophysics, 1998Abstract Deformation bands ( db ) which are indicative for soft-sediment deformation during the folding of flysch sediments are widespread within the Eocene strata of the Magura nappe. Four types of db have been distinguished: (1) db with no cataclasis of detrital sand grains; (2) db with traces of feldspar cataclasis; (3) db with strong ...

At the Cenomanian/Turonian boundary in the Outer Carpathian basin the sedimentation of black and green Radiolarian shales was replaced by deposition of variegated shales reflecting a distinct change in sedimentary conditions from anaerobic to aeorobic. Sedimentation of the Turonian to Lower Senonian variegated shales preceded uplift of the intrabasinal

The Polish Outer Carpathians consist of several flysch series of unknown original basement. They were deposited from Late Jurassic to Miocene in a large basin dissected by tectonically uplifted ridges (cordillieras) which acted as source terrains. The actual nappe pile is correlated with palaeogeographic basin realms.
