Prediction Models for Flight Activity of the Cranberry Girdler (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) in Wisconsin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Cranberry girdler, Chrysoteuchia topiaria, was monitored with pheromone traps in Wisconsin cranberry farms. Cumulative 50% capture was related to degree-days after first catch using air or soil temperature.

Co‐Design at the Boundary: Understanding the Dynamics of Open Innovation Between Companies and Communities

open access: yesJournal of Product Innovation Management, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT For over two decades, firms have built platforms and engaged open innovation communities to improve and customize their products through widened participation in the design process. While the benefits of involving those outside a firm as co‐designers have been well described, how co‐design processes unfold over time at the boundary between ...

Light Trap Records of \u3ci\u3ePhyllophaga\u3c/i\u3e (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) in Wisconsin, 1984-1987 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Phyllophaga adults (June beetles) were surveyed from 1984 through 1987 at five locations in Wisconsin using black light traps. Data were collected at each location for three consecutive years.

Alternation of must, have to, and need to in English as a lingua franca

open access: yesWorld Englishes, EarlyView.
Abstract This study explores the grammatical variability of modal auxiliary verbs in English as a lingua franca. Focusing on the ongoing change must, have to, and need to, this research utilizes two spoken corpora: the Vienna–Oxford International Corpus of English (VOICE) and the Asian Corpus of English (ACE).

Exploring pest population dynamics using the economic entomology modeling activity

open access: yesNatural Sciences Education, Volume 55, Issue 1, June 2026.
Abstract Motivated by the increasing demand for data‐driven pest management approaches, the economic entomology modeling activity (EEMA), an Excel‐based interactive teaching tool, aims to introduce students to the complexities of modeling ecological factors in applied systems.

Parametrically excited surface waves in magnetic fluids: observation of domain structures

open access: yes, 1998
Observations of parametrically excited surface waves in a magnetic fluid are presented. Under the influence of a magnetic field these waves have a non--monotonic dispersion relation, which leads to a richer behavior than in ordinary liquids.

Children's Foreign Word Recognition at First Exposure: The Role of Phonological Similarity and Utterance Position

open access: yesLanguage Learning, Volume 76, Issue 2, Page 565-596, June 2026.
Abstract The current study examined how children apply their phonological knowledge to recognize translation equivalents in a foreign language. Target words for recognition were either phonologically similar (cognate) or dissimilar (noncognate) to words they already knew in their first language.

Super-lattice, rhombus, square, and hexagonal standing waves in magnetically driven ferrofluid surface

open access: yes, 2000
Standing wave patterns that arise on the surface of ferrofluids by (single frequency) parametric forcing with an ac magnetic field are investigated experimentally.

Effects of Partner Workload and Increasing Environmental Temperature on Nestling Provisioning and Body Temperature in a Declining Aerial Insectivore

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part A: Ecological and Integrative Physiology, Volume 345, Issue 4, Page 414-426, May 2026.
ABSTRACT With climate change, birds will face increasing thermoregulatory demands, which may alter reproductive behaviors such as offspring provisioning. Experimental studies have shown that the provisioning capacity of female tree swallows (Tachycineta bicolor) is limited by their risk of overheating. Given that parental investment strategies may vary

Using episodic memory to gauge implicit and/or indeterminate social commitments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In discussing Mahr and Csibra’s observations about the role of episodic memory in grounding social commitments, we propose that episodic memory is especially useful for gauging cases of implicit commitment and cases in which the content of a commitment ...
