Migration and accumulation of crude oils from Permian lacustrine source rocks to Triassic reservoirs in the Mahu depression of Junggar Basin, NW China: Constraints from pyrrolic nitrogen compounds and fluid inclusion analysis

Organic Geochemistry, 2016
Abstract The geochemical compositions of crude oils and Permian source rocks from the Mahu depression of the Junggar Basin were analyzed in this study. Based on tricyclic terpanes and isoprenoid biomarkers, three oil groups (I, II and III) can be identified that correspond to different source rock formations and organic facies.

Utilizing borehole electrical images to evaluate sorting of conglomeratic formation: example from Lower Triassic Baikouquan Formation in Well M152, Mahu Depression, Junggar Basin, China

Arabian Journal of Geosciences, 2020
Grain-size sorting of buried formation in openholes only comes from the particle size analysis of drilled cores. However, cores impossibly cover the whole formation, and the sorting of uncored interval is absent. With ultrahigh-resolution, borehole electrical image contains particular geological attributes, such as grain-sizes, sedimentary structures ...

Sedimentary characteristics and controls of a retreating, coarse‐grained fan‐delta system in the Lower Triassic, Mahu Depression, northwestern China

Geological Journal, 2018
In recent years, enriched hydrocarbon reservoirs have been largely founded in the Lower Triassic Baikouquan Formation, in the Mahu Depression of Junggar basin, northwestern China. Accordingly, the sedimentologic complexity of associated deposits has been extensively studied, though most of them focused on local oil‐producing fields separately.

Conglomerate categories in coarse-grained deltas and their controls on hydrocarbon reservoir distribution: a case study of the Triassic Baikouquan Formation, Mahu Depression, NW China

Petroleum Geoscience, 2017
There is great potential for hydrocarbon exploration in the Triassic Baikouquan Formation, in the Mahu Depression of the Junggar Basin, NW China. Controversy remains around the conglomerate categories in coarse-grained deltas, which has inhibited further exploration in this area. Based on a dataset of cores, test data, well logs and seismic, this study

Controlling Factors of Hydraulic Fractures Based on a Post-Fracturing Cored Well in Glutenite Reservoirs: A Case Study from Mahu Depression, Junggar Basin

SPE Journal
Summary A test site was established for hydraulic fracturing testing, and a horizontal well was drilled for coring to study hydraulic fracture (HF) in the Baikouquan Formation (Fm) on the northern slope of Mahu Depression, Junggar Basin, western China. A total of 345 fractures were obtained over 323.19-m cores, and HFs were identified by

Initiation Analysis of Hydraulic Fractures in Glutenite Reservoirs: Implications from a Post-Fracturing Cored Well in the Triassic Baikouquan Formation, North Slope of Mahu Depression

SPE Journal
Summary In this study, we investigate the initiation and behavior of hydraulic fractures (HFs) in glutenite reservoirs using data from a post-fracturing cored well in the Triassic Baikouquan Formation, North Slope of Mahu Depression.
