Eccentricity distribution in the main asteroid belt [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2016
The observationally complete sample of the main belt asteroids now spans more than two orders of magnitude in size and numbers more than 64,000 (excluding collisional family members). We undertook an analysis of asteroids' eccentricities and their interpretation with simple physical models.

Chaotic diffusion of the Vesta family induced by close encounters with massive asteroids

open access: yes, 2011
We numerically estimate the semi-major axis chaotic diffusion of the Vesta family asteroids induced by close encounters with 11 massive main belt asteroids : (1) Ceres, (2) Pallas, (3) Juno, (4) Vesta, (7) Iris, (10) Hygiea, (15) Eunomia, (19) Fortuna ...

Thermophysical Investigation of Asteroid Surfaces. II. Factors Influencing Grain Size

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal, 2022
Asteroid surfaces are subjected to mechanical weathering processes that result in the development and evolution of regolith. Two proposed mechanisms—impact bombardment and thermal fatigue—have been proposed as viable and dominant weathering processes ...

Scattering V-type asteroids during the giant planets instability: A step for Jupiter, a leap for basalt

open access: yes, 2017
V-type asteroids are a taxonomic class whose surface is associated to a basaltic composition. The only known source of V-type asteroids in the Main Asteroid Belt is (4) Vesta, that is located in the inner part of the belt.

Evidence for a colour dependence in the size distribution of main belt asteroids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We present the results of a project to detect small (~1 km) main-belt asteroids with the 3.6 meter Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope (CFHT). We observed in 2 filters (MegaPrime g' and r') in order to compare the results in each band.

Main Belt Asteroids with WISE/NEOWISE: Near-Infrared Albedos [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We present revised near-infrared albedo fits of 2835 Main Belt asteroids observed by WISE/NEOWISE over the course of its fully cryogenic survey in 2010.

New knowledge about shock events that affected the L‐chondrite parent body from two heavily shocked L6 meteorite finds

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract We report new results from a study of shock‐related features in the L6 ordinary chondrites Northwest Africa (NWA) 4672 and NWA 12841. Our observations confirm the occurrence of eight high‐pressure (HP) minerals in each meteorite, namely, ringwoodite, majorite, akimotoite, wadsleyite, albitic jadeite, lingunite, tuite, and xieite.

Dynamical evolution of V-type asteroids in the central main belt

open access: yes, 2014
V-type asteroids are associated with basaltic composition, and are supposed to be fragments of crust of differentiated objects. Most V-type asteroids in the main belt are found in the inner main belt, and are either current members of the Vesta dynamical

Noble gases and nitrogen in material from asteroid Bennu

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract We report the elemental and isotopic abundances of all stable noble gases (helium, neon, argon, krypton, and xenon) in eight particles from asteroid Bennu returned by NASA's OSIRIS‐REx mission. We also report nitrogen abundances and isotopic ratios that were analyzed alongside neon and argon in four additional Bennu particles.
