On the use of a steerable main landing gear for crosswind landing assistance

CEAS Aeronautical Journal, 2014
Several crosswind-related incidents show that landing under heavy crosswind conditions can be challenging for pilots and may pose a threat to aviation or at least lead to higher pilot workload and/or irregularities in operations. For transport aircraft the common approach technique for crosswind landings is the so-called crabbed approach with wings ...

Aerodynamic Measurements of the 777 Main Landing Gear Model

12th AIAA/CEAS Aeroacoustics Conference (27th AIAA Aeroacoustics Conference), 2006
*† ‡ § . Aerodynamic measurements were taken over two models (13% and 26%) of the 777 high fidelity isolated main landing gear in the 6- by 6-foot Virginia Tech Stability Wind Tunnel (VT-SWT) at a free-stream Mach number of 0.16. Digital Particle Image Velocimetry measurements discussed in this paper are acquired at four locations over the 13% model of

Main Landing Gear Operation powered by Multifunctional High-Lift PCUs

2021
For conventional aircraft, the high-lift and main landing gear systems are hydraulic/electric consumers with high power demands. The paper shows how the supply systems of these can be combined to save system weight and cost for future more electric aircraft.

Effects of Freeplay on Aircraft Main Landing Gear Stability

AIAA Atmospheric Flight Mechanics Conference, 2012
A study is made into the occurrence of shimmy oscillations in a dual-wheel main landing gear system. Nonlinear equations of motion are developed for the system and various nonlinear effects are considered including gyroscopic coupling, nonlinear tyre properties, geometric nonlinearities and fluid damping.
