Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Spectral Variability of Herbig Ae Star V1295, Aquila

open access: yesGalaxies
This article presents the results of long-term spectral studies of the unusual Herbig Ae star V1295 Aql. The variability in the spectrophotometric parameters of the emission and absorption components of the hydrogen lines Hα, Hβ, and D Na I—and of ...

Astrobiological Effects of F, G, K and M Main-Sequence Stars

open access: yes, 2008
We focus on the astrobiological effects of photospheric radiation produced by main-sequence stars of spectral types F, G, K, and M. The photospheric radiation is represented by using realistic spectra, taking into account millions or hundred of millions ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Planetary Obliquity Excitation through Pre-main-sequence Stellar Evolution

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
A planet’s axial tilt (“obliquity”) substantially affects its atmosphere and habitability. It is thus essential to comprehend the various mechanisms that can excite planetary obliquities, particularly at the primordial stage.

Age Constraints for an M31 Globular Cluster from Main Sequence Photometry

open access: yes, 2004
We present a color-magnitude diagram (CMD) of the globular cluster SKHB-312 in the Andromeda galaxy (M31), obtained with the Advanced Camera for Surveys on the Hubble Space Telescope.

Cell density–dependent nuclear‐cytoplasmic shuttling of SETDB1 integrates with Hippo signaling to regulate YAP1‐mediated transcription

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
At low cell density, SETDB1 and YAP1 accumulate in the nucleus. As cell density increases, the Hippo pathway is gradually activated, and SETDB1 is associated with increased YAP1 phosphorylation. At high cell density, phosphorylated YAP1 is sequestered in the cytoplasm, while SETDB1 becomes polyubiquitinated and degraded by the ubiquitin–proteasome ...
