Does Metallicity Affect the Protoplanetary Disk Fraction? Answers from the Outer Milky Way

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The role of metallicity in shaping protoplanetary disk evolution remains poorly comprehended. This study analyzes the disk fraction of 10 young (0.9–2.1 Myr) and low-metallicity (0.34–0.83 Z _⊙ ) clusters located in the outer Milky Way with ...

The apo LETM1 F‐EF‐hand adopts a closed conformation that underlies a multi‐modal sensory role in mitochondria

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present the first solution structure of the Ca2+‐depleted LETM1 F‐EF‐hand through a D676A/N678A Ca2+ binding‐deficient mutant, revealing a closed hydrophobic cleft caused by a unique F1‐helix pivot. The apo LETM1 F‐EF‐hand exhibits regiospecific hot and cold unfolding, sensitivity to physiological pH changes and potential for promiscuous heterotypic

Evolution of Stars toward the Main Sequence

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical and Fundamental Sciences, 2019
. A review on the knowledge of the stellar evolution toward the main sequence is presented. This is the period during which the stars evolve from the beginning of their formation to the phase of stabilization on the main sequence where nuclear reactions ...

Structural and mechanistic basis for the regulation of the chloroplast signal recognition particle by (p)ppGpp

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LHCPs are transported to the thylakoid membrane via the (cp)SRP pathway. This process involves a transit complex of (cp)SRP43, (cp)SRP54 and LHCP, which interacts with (cp)FtsY and Alb3 at the membrane. GTP hydrolysis by (cp)SRP54 and (cp)FtsY triggers complex dissociation.

Discovery of Metal-poor and Distant Pre–Main Sequence Candidates in WLM with JWST

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
We present the discovery of 12 metal-poor and distant pre–main sequence (PMS) candidates in the dwarf irregular galaxy Wolf–Lundmark–Melotte ∼968 kpc away, at a present-day metallicity of [Fe/H] ∼ –0.9.

Accurate fundamental parameters for Lower Main Sequence Stars

open access: yes, 2006
We derive an empirical effective temperature and bolometric luminosity calibration for G and K dwarfs, by applying our own implementation of the InfraRed Flux Method to multi-band photometry.

Distinct dysregulated pathways in sporadic and Lynch syndrome‐associated colorectal cancer offer insights for targeted treatment

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study explores the distinct molecular mechanisms underlying Lynch syndrome‐associated and sporadic colorectal cancer (CRC). By highlighting the therapeutic potential of targeting the PI3K‐Akt pathway in Lynch syndrome‐associated CRC and the Wnt pathway in sporadic CRC, the findings open avenues for personalised treatment strategies, aiming to ...

Polarization: A Method to Reveal the True Nature of the Dusty S-Cluster Object (DSO/G2)

open access: yesGalaxies, 2018
There have been different scenarios describing the nature of a dusty source, noted as Dusty S-cluster Object (DSO) or G2, orbiting around the Galactic centre super-massive black hole.

Molecular line emissions from pre main sequence objects [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
We present some preliminary results obtained with the LWS G.T. programme on the study of young objects driving molecular outflows. In particular, we discuss the importance of molecular emission in these sources and address the role of the H20 ...

The multiple roles of the NlpC_P60 peptidase family in mycobacteria – an underexplored target for antimicrobial drug discovery

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The NlpC_P60 superfamily of peptidases is recognised by its key role in bacterial cell wall homeostasis. Recently, studies have also described the involvement of NlpC_P60‐like enzymes in bacterial competitive mechanisms and pathogenesis across several lineages.
