Developing a Cooperative Research Agenda for Maines Commercial Fisheries
This past year the Maine Department of Marine Resources sponsored a unique series of meetings involving fishermen, academic and government scientists, and fishery managers. The goal was to define a shared research agenda for Maine’s marine fisheries. Robin Alden and Linda Mercer summarize the results of these meetings.

Social benefits of restoring historical ecosystems and fisheries: alewives in Maine [PDF]
Restoration of coastal ecosystems provides opportunities to simultaneously restore historical fisheries and ancillary ecosystem and social benefits that were historically derived from functioning ecosystems. Fishery-Scale Discard Mortality Rate Estimate for Haddock in the Gulf of Maine Recreational Fishery [PDF]

The precursors of governance in the Maine lobster fishery [PDF]
Collective action is more likely to occur and to be effective when it is consistent with the self-interest of the affected individuals. The Maine lobster fishery is an instructive example of biological and technological circumstances combining with individual self-interest to create conditions favorable to collective action. Forecasting the Seasonal Timing of Maine's Lobster Fishery [PDF]
The fishery for American lobster is currently the highest-valued commercial fishery in the United States, worth over US$620 million in dockside value in 2015. During a marine heat wave in 2012, the fishery was disrupted by the early warming of spring ocean temperatures and subsequent influx of lobster landings.
