Carnitine in Maintenance Hemodialysis Patients
Journal of Renal Nutrition, 2015Carnitine is a conditionally essential metabolite that plays a critical role in cell physiology. Carnitine is necessary for fatty acid transport to sites of beta-oxidation in the mitochondria, where it also helps to prevent organic acid accumulation. Because of these key regulatory functions, carnitine represents a crucial determinant of mitochondrial ...

Mannitol and maintenance hemodialysis.
Artificial organs, 1980The extensive use of mannitol during maintenance hemodialysis prompted a study of mannitol kinetics. In 17 patients receiving empirical mannitol therapy of mannitol kinetics. In 17 patients receiving empirical mannitol therapy, residual levels range from 19 to 100 mg% In vitro mannitol clearance exceeds 125 ml/min for the CDAK 5 and PF 1.6 dialyzers ...

Lymphocyte Subpopulations in Maintenance Hemodialysis Patients
Journal of Dialysis, 1978Lymphocyte counts and T,B and null cell proportions were analyzed in forty non-splenectomized, non-nephrectomized maintenance hemodialysis patients, and compared with those in controls. The patients were lymphopenic, but had normal T, B and null cell percentages, regardless of tehir primary renal disease.

Nutritional requirements in maintenance hemodialysis
Advances in Renal Replacement Therapy, 2003There is a high prevalence of nutritional disorders in maintenance hemodialysis patients. This fact has been recently confirmed because larger routine assessments of MHD patients body composition are now performed. Food records and dietary interviews show spontaneous low intakes of protein and energy in many patients.

Major surgery in patients on maintenance hemodialysis
The American Journal of Surgery, 1968Abstract The hospital records of thirty-three patients with chronic renal failure undergoing forty-four major operations and requiring pre- and postoperative hemodialysis were reviewed. The patients were evaluated as to preoperative preparation, intraoperative course, and the development of postoperative complications.

Penile calcification in maintenance hemodialysis patients
Urology, 1992Penile calcification was detected in 6 of 32 patients (19%) with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) using soft tissue x-ray techniques. Having been maintained on hemodialysis for a minimum of one year, all the affected patients showed clinical evidence of secondary hyperparathyroidism and calcification in the blood vessels of some other tissues.
