First record of the forensically important genus Protopiophila Duda (Diptera: Piophilidae) from South Korea and an integrative framework for forensic identification

Abstract The family Piophilidae is of significant forensic importance due to its association with late‐stage decomposition; however, the Korean piophilid fauna remains poorly studied, lacking comprehensive morphological and molecular data. Abstract Alternate light sources (ALS) have been suggested to improve bruise visibility for medicolegal evaluations. Previous studies have recommended darkened conditions; however, this does not reflect real‐life autopsy settings, where multiple examinations are conducted simultaneously and turning off the lights is neither practical nor safe.
