Maize × Teosinte Hybridization
1994The greatest part of the genetic variability of maize has been caused or maintained by the introgression of wild germplasm, especially of the taxa closest to the cultivated species: the teosintes. There exists good documentation regarding the existence of F1 Hybrids and advanced generations, derived from the same, produced by natural Hybridizations ...

Cytogenetic evidence is presented that the cross between hexaploid bread wheat (Triticum aestivum, 2n = 42) and maize (Zea mays, 2n = 20) results in a hybrid zygote with one complete haploid chromosome set from each parent. Maize chromosomes are subsequently eliminated.

Tillage × Maize Hybrid Interactions
Agronomy Journal, 2006Continuous maize (Zea mays L.) yields may be depressed with no‐tillage (NT) compared with conventional chisel and disking systems (CD). Shallow or deep in‐row tillage (ST and DT, respectively) may help alleviate this yield reduction, whereas some hybrids may be better adapted to NT. We therefore evaluated five maize hybrids with NT, ST, DT, and CD from

New maize × Tripsacum hybrids for maize improvement
Euphytica, 1979Approximately 27 000 maize x tripsacum pollinations were made and 19 hybrids were identified. Fourteen of these hybrids were of the classical type, which possesses the full gametic complement of chromosomes from each parent. These hybrids are more like tripsacum than maize.

Biotechnology in the 1930s: the development of hybrid maize
Nature Reviews Genetics, 2001Hybrid maize was one of the first examples of genetic theory successfully applied to food production. When first introduced, it seemed almost miraculous; study hybrids convinced skeptical farmers that 'the professors' and their arcane science could do them some good.

A novel maize variety designated X08F109 and seed, plants and plant parts thereof are produced by crossing inbred maize varieties. Methods for producing a maize plant by crossing hybrid maize variety X08F109 with another maize plant are disclosed. Methods for producing a maize plant containing in its genetic material one or more traits introgressed ...

Development of maize hybrids resistant to maize streak virus
Crop Protection, 1992Abstract Established plant-breeding practices were used in the development of maize ( Zea mays ) inbreds (homozygous plants) resistant to maize streak virus (MSV). These were then crossed in various combinations to produce MSV-resistant hybrids. Recently, 150 white inbreds were infected with the virus in a field experiment.

Hybridization of maize and teosinte, in mexico and guatemala and the improvement of maize
Economic Botany, 1977The recognition and subsequent detection of the importance of teosinte introgression in the racial diversity and heterotic gene architecture of maize has been one of the outstanding achievements of Paul C. Mangelsdorf’s investigations into the origin of maize.

Transferring hybrid maize technology
Food Policy, 1988Abstract Developing countries have tried a variety of policies concerning new technology as a source of agricultural growth; there is still much debate on which is the most efficient. More study of private methods of technology transfer is needed.
