Assessment of wind-induced environmental lodging stress for maize based on GIS

Proceedings 2011 IEEE International Conference on Spatial Data Mining and Geographical Knowledge Services, 2011
Lodging in maize is one of the major problems in maize production worldwide. This study is to assess environmental lodging stress for maize based on probability analysis of extreme wind event in maize vegetative stage. A total of 687 growing counties in Huang-Huai-Hai Plain, China were chosen as study area.

Synergistic development of maize stalk as a strategy to reduce lodging risk

Agronomy Journal, 2020
AbstractThe reason for different maize (Zea mays L.) hybrids exhibiting differences in stalk lodging risk between the 12‐leaf (V12) and flowering stages is unclear. This study tracked internode development included morphology, carbohydrate accumulation, and mechanical strength of basal internodes in four widely‐planted maize hybrids in China for two ...

Use of EDAH Improves Maize Morphological and Mechanical Traits Related to Lodging

Agronomy Journal, 2019
Core Ideas Use of EDAH decreased maize lodging across plant densities. EDAH increased strength, thickness and lignin content of internodes. The use of EDAH lowered ear position and leaf area above the ear. Use of EDAH lowered leaf angle so more leaves were erect.

A Portable Electronic Device for Evaluating Root Lodging Resistance in Maize

Agronomy Journal, 1995
AbstractBecause climatic conditions conducive to natural lodging of maize (Zea mays L.) are sporadic and unreliable, a need exists for methods of evaluating the resistance of genotypes to root lodging. A portable electronic device was built for horizontal pushing resistance measurements on individual plants.

Mechanical properties of maize fibre bundles and their contribution to lodging resistance

Biosystems Engineering, 2016
Tensile properties of fibre bundles were estimated according to their location in the stem. The average tensile modulus and tensile strength in the core group of the fibre bundles (4.44 ± 0.28 GPa and 32.35 ± 2.07 MPa, respectively) were significant lower than that in the skin group (10.80 ± 0.62 GPa and 92.65 ± 6.23 MPa, respectively).

In-Field Evaluation of Root Lodging Resistance of Whole Maize Plants

Cold Spring Harbor Protocols
Root lodging due to wind is common in maize production worldwide, and can reduce photosynthetic capacity as well as nutrient uptake, resulting in significant yield loss and seed quality reduction. Lodging also causes harvesting problems, and ultimately increases production costs.

Monitoring Maize Lodging Disaster Via Multi-Temporal Remote Sensing Images

IGARSS 2019 - 2019 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2019
The study aimed to monitor maize lodging in a large scale by using multi-temporal HJ-1B CCD images. The variation of vegetation indexes before and after lodging was analyzed. The sensitive vegetation index of maize lodging was selected by correlation analysis method.
