The Snow Crab, Chionoecetes opilio (Decapoda, Majoidea, Oregoniidae) in the Barents Sea
2011The snow crab, Chionoecetes opilio (Fabricius, 1788), is recorded from the North Pacific, Arctic and Northwest Atlantic. In 1996 however, Russian fishing vessels captured five snow crabs in the Barents Sea and since then, fishing vessels operating in the area have occasionally reported this spider crab in the by-catch.

In this study, we constructed the first molecular phylogeny of the diverse crab superfamily Majoidea (Decapoda: Pleocyemata: Brachyura), using three loci (16S, COI, and 28S) from 37 majoid species. We used this molecular phylogeny to evaluate evidence for phylogenetic hypotheses based on larval and adult morphology.

Remarkable zoeas of two species of deep-sea spider crabs (Brachyura, Majoidea, Epialtidae, Pisinae)
2012The first zoeas of two pisinine species, Laubierinia nodosa (Rathbun, 1916) and Oxypleurodon stimpsoni Miers, 1886, are described and illustrated from laboratory-hatched materials. Among majoid larvae, the present zoeas share a salient distinguishing character in having a pair of forehead cornua on the carapace.
