Limited arc magmatism and seismicity due to extensive mantle wedge serpentinization in the Makran subduction zone

open access: yesEarth and Planetary Science Letters
Highlights • We present a new integrated seismic, magnetic, gravity and isostatic model across the Makran subduction zone. • Slow low-angle Makran subduction has 60–65% serpentinization in the peridotitic shallow mantle wedge. • A large volume of rheologically weak serpentinite reduces seismicity by lowering the slab friction.

Wilson Cycle studies [PDF]

open access: yes
Regional lineaments in continental evolution were studied. It was concluded that lineaments within continents are attributed to a small number of processes of continent formation and modification, but interactions among these processes may produce ...

Petrography, geochemistry and tectonic setting of Salmabad Tertiary volcanic rocks, southeast of Sarbisheh, eastern Iran

open access: yesJournal of Economic Geology, 2014
Introduction The area reviewed and studied in this paper is located 5 km southeast of Sarbisheh city at eastern border of the Lut block (Jung et al., 1983; Karimpour et al., 2011; Richards et al., 2012) in eastern Iran between 59° 47′ and 59° 53′ E ...

Sulfide mineralization in ultramafic rocks of the Faryab ophiolite complex, southern Kerman

open access: yesJournal of Economic Geology, 2015
Introduction Worldwide, Ni-Cu and PGE magmatic sulfide deposits are confined to the lower parts of stratiform mafic and ultramafic complexes. However, ophiolite mafic and ultramafic complexes have been rarely explored for sulfide deposits despite the ...
