Modeling the near-field effects of the worst-case tsunami in the Makran subduction zone

Ocean Engineering, 2009
Abstract As a first step towards the development of inundation maps for the northwestern Indian Ocean, we simulated the near-field inundation of two large tsunami in the Makran subduction zone (MSZ). The tsunami scenarios were based on large historical earthquakes in the region.

Structure of the Makran subduction zone from wide-angle and reflection seismic data

Tectonophysics, 2000
Abstract Makran is one of the largest accretionary wedges on the globe, formed by the convergence between the Eurasian and the Arabian Plates. It is characterised by an extremely high sediment input of 7 km and a shallow subduction angle. We present seismic velocity models from four wide-angle seismic lines that image the wedge sediments and the ...

The structure, fluid distribution and earthquake potential of the Makran Subduction Zone, Pakistan [PDF]

open access: possible, 2013
The Makran subduction zone (offshore Pakistan and Iran) has the largest accretionary prism of any margin worldwide, formed due to the thick incoming sediment section of up to 7.5 km. This margin has been relatively understudied, and this thesis presents a new, detailed structural and hydrological interpretation and seismogenic hazard assessment for the
