Phylogenetic Analysis of the Stomatopoda (Malacostraca) [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Crustacean Biology, 1997
ABSTRACT The stomatopods or mantis shrimps are malacostracan crustaceans of the subclass Hoplocarida. All extant hoplocarids belong to the order Stomatopoda and suborder Unipeltata. The Unipeltata comprises the extinct, stem-lineage sculdids, and the crown-group which includes the 19 extant families with more than 400 species.

Myogenesis of Malacostraca – the “egg-nauplius” concept revisited [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Zoology, 2013
Malacostracan evolutionary history has seen multiple transformations of ontogenetic mode. For example direct development in connection with extensive brood care and development involving planktotrophic nauplius larvae, as well as intermediate forms are found throughout this taxon.

Acoustic monitoring of swimming motions in the slipper lobster Scyllarides acquinoctialis (Lund, 1793) [PDF]

open access: yesArthropods, 2020
Members of the Malacostraca employ an escape swimming mode called a tail-flip. In this maneuver the uropods and telson are rapidly brought forward until they contact the ventral surface of the abdomen.

Shore crabs reveal novel evolutionary attributes of the mushroom body

open access: yeseLife, 2021
Neural organization of mushroom bodies is largely consistent across insects, whereas the ancestral ground pattern diverges broadly across crustacean lineages resulting in successive loss of columns and the acquisition of domed centers retaining ancestral
