Traditional Chinese Medicine for lung cancer: Mechanisms, clinical evidence, and future perspectives

open access: yesPrecision Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
Graphical abstract represents the risk factors for lung cancer, TCM efficacy and clinical outcomes to future challenges. Abstract Lung cancer remains a leading cause of global cancer mortality. Despite advances in conventional treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy, challenges including drug resistance, toxicity ...

Risk assessment of malaria in land border regions of China in the context of malaria elimination [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background\ud \ud Cross-border malaria transmission poses a challenge for countries to achieve and maintain malaria elimination. Because of a dramatic increase of cross-border population movement between China and 14 neighbouring countries, the malaria ...

Structural Insights Into the Function of Leishmania major Adenylosuccinate Lyase

open access: yesProteins: Structure, Function, and Bioinformatics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT One of several intriguing aspects of kinetoplastid biochemistry is the complete dependence on host purines and purine recycling due to the lack of a de novo purine biosynthesis pathway. Adenylosuccinate lyase (ASL, EC 4.3.2.2) is a key enzyme in the purine synthesis pathway responsible for the conversion of adenylosuccinate into adenosine ...

Impact of seasonal malaria chemoprevention: a plausibility evaluation of routine data from health facilities in three implementing states in Nigeria

open access: yesMalaria Journal
Background Seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC) has been recommended by the World Health Organization since 2012 for eligible children in areas where malaria transmission is highly seasonal and intense. By 2024, SMC had been successfully implemented in

School-based surveys of malaria in Oromia Regional State, Ethiopia: a rapid survey method for malaria in low transmission settings. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
BACKGROUND: In Ethiopia, malaria transmission is seasonal and unstable, with both Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax endemic. Such spatial and temporal clustering of malaria only serves to underscore the importance of regularly collecting up-to ...

Commercial permethrin elicits chemoreceptive responses on different Anopheles gambiae sensory appendages

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Anopheles gambiae mosquitoes exhibit takeoff responses when presented to commercial permethrin headspace. This product elicits electrophysiological activity in the antennae and tarsi. However, only the chemical information acquired from the tarsi plays a major role in the observed behavioral response.

The 24, 2 hours initiative: a game changer in malaria mortality reduction

open access: yesMalaria Journal
Malaria is the largest contributor to morbidity and mortality in Uganda. Severe malaria accounts for 15–20% of hospital admissions and an average of 6% of malaria cases were hospitalized in 2023.

A micro-epidemiological analysis of febrile malaria in Coastal Kenya showing hotspots within hotspots. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Malaria transmission is spatially heterogeneous. This reduces the efficacy of control strategies, but focusing control strategies on clusters or 'hotspots' of transmission may be highly effective.

Long‐term impact of exposure to Royal Guard, a pyriproxyfen‐based bed net, on pyrethroid‐resistant malaria vectors from Cameroon using DNA‐based metabolic resistance markers

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 4, Page 2165-2180, April 2025.
We used recently detected P450 DNA‐based markers of pyrethroid resistance in both Anopheles funestus and Anopheles gambiae to demonstrate that although pyrethroid‐resistant mosquitoes have higher ability to survive and live longer after exposure to Royal Guard, this net significantly affects their lifespan, blood feeding ability and interestingly ...
