Patterns of age-specific mortality in children in endemic areas of sub-Saharan Africa. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Understanding of the age- and season- dependence of malaria mortality is an important prerequisite for epidemiologic models of malaria immunity. However, most studies of malaria mortality have aggregated their results into broad age groups and across ...

NAD⁺ Reduction in Glutamatergic Neurons Induces Lipid Catabolism and Neuroinflammation in the Brain via SARM1

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
NAD⁺ homeostasis maintains neuronal integrity through opposing actions of NMNAT2 and SARM1. Loss of NMNAT2 in glutamatergic neurons reprograms cortical metabolism from glucose to lipid catabolism, depletes lipid stores, and triggers inflammation and neurodegeneration.

Assessing the effects of global warming and local social and economic conditions on the malaria transmission

open access: yesRevista de Saúde Pública, 2000
OBJECTIVE: To show how a mathematical model can be used to describe and to understand the malaria transmission. METHODS: The effects on malaria transmission due to the impact of the global temperature changes and prevailing social and economic conditions

Going beyond personal protection against mosquito bites to eliminate malaria transmission: population suppression of malaria vectors that exploit both human and animal blood

open access: yesBMJ Global Health, 2017
Protecting individuals and households against mosquito bites with long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) or indoor residual spraying (IRS) can suppress entire populations of unusually efficient malaria vector species that predominantly feed indoors on ...

Spatial and temporal dynamics of malaria transmission in rural western Kenya [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
: BACKGROUND: Understanding the impact of reducing Plasmodium falciparum malaria transmission requires estimates of the relationship between health outcomes and exposure to infectious mosquitoes. However, measures of exposure such as mosquito density and

AIEgen‐Based Proactive Early Warning System and Precise Treatment Strategy for Monkeypox Prevention and Control

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An intelligent early warning and treatment system for monkeypox, utilizing a sprayable AIEgen‐ liquid dressing (AIE@LD) that responds to lesion pH. Integrated with a smartphone app and cloud platform, it enables real‐time infection detection via fluorescence imaging and triggers on‐demand photodynamic therapy under white light, effectively eradicating ...

False-negative malaria rapid diagnostic tests in Rwanda: impact of Plasmodium falciparum isolates lacking hrp2 and declining malaria transmission

open access: yesMalaria Journal, 2017
Rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) for histidine rich protein 2 (HRP2) are often used to determine whether persons with fever should be treated with anti-malarials. However, Plasmodium falciparum parasites with a deletion of the hrp2 gene yield false-negative

Curvy Surface Reconstruction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review introduces the concept of “general curvy surface reconstruction,” which incorporates both geometric and physical dimensions, representing an upgrade over conventional geometric reconstruction that focuses solely on spatial relationships. Particular emphasis is placed on the emerging opportunities enabled by advanced measurement techniques ...

Quantifying malaria endemicity in Ethiopia through combined application of classical methods and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay: an initial step for countries with low transmission initiating elimination programme

open access: yesMalaria Journal, 2018
Background In the context of reduced transmission of malaria, it is essential to re-evaluate and determine the level of transmission as it guides re-orientation of control measures which is appropriate to local disease epidemiology.

Stratification at the health district level for targeting malaria control interventions in Mali

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Malaria is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in Mali. Between 2017 and 2020, the number of cases increased in the country, with 2,884,827 confirmed cases and 1454 reported deaths in 2020.
