An open‐label pilot study on an adsorbent mousse containing adelmidrol in client‐owned cats with feline atopic skin syndrome and associated seborrhoea

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, EarlyView.
Background – Besides pruritus and skin lesions, cats with feline atopic skin syndrome (FASS) may have seborrhoea. Hypothesis/Objectives – The aim of this pilot study was to investigate whether an adsorbent mousse containing tapioca starch, adelmidrol and a nonpharmacological antimicrobial complex could decrease FASS‐associated seborrhoea in cats ...

Antimicrobial Activity of Essential Oils against Staphylococcus and Malassezia Strains Isolated from Canine Dermatitis

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2020
Staphylococcus spp. bacteria are the most frequently involved agents in canine cutaneous infections. Treatment of these infections is based on antibiotic therapy, that often is not effective because of the antibiotic-resistance of the bacterial strains ...

Effect of a ceruminolytic ear cleaner on clinical, microbiological and ear canal microbiome evolution in canine erythemato‐ceruminous otitis externa associated with proliferation of Malassezia yeasts

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, EarlyView.
Background – Erythemato‐ceruminous otitis externa (ECOE) is commonly associated with Malassezia spp. and microbial imbalance. Hypothesis/Objective – To assess the clinical performance of an ear cleaner in dogs suffering from ECOE associated with Malassezia spp. overgrowth and to measure its impact on the microbiota. Conclusions and Clinical Relevance –

Biofilm formation in Malassezia pachydermatis strains isolated from dogs decreases susceptibility to ketoconazole and itraconazole [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Malassezia pachydermatis is a commonly isolated yeast in veterinary dermatology that can produce biofilms in vitro and in vivo, lowering its susceptibility to antimicrobial drugs.

Hydrocortisone Aceponate for Chronic Otitis: Long‐Term Efficacy

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, EarlyView.
Effective management of otitis externa (OE) requires addressing all contributing factors to prevent chronicity and recurrence. Evidence on the long‐term efficacy of topical corticosteroids in preventing recurrence and secondary infections remains limited. This retrospective noncontrolled study evaluated the efficacy of hydrocortisone aceponate (HCA) in

Farming System and Nematodes Affect the Rhizosphere Microbiome of Tropical Banana Plants

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 17, Issue 4, August 2025.
The banana crops showed a core microbiome of 77 ASV, mostly belonging to Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, and Bacilli. Specific groups of bacteria and fungi were linked to each nematode species or feeding group, with a core microbiome of correlated taxa found only when considering nematodes by feeding groups.

Loss of centromere function drives karyotype evolution in closely related Malassezia species

open access: yeseLife, 2020
Genomic rearrangements associated with speciation often result in variation in chromosome number among closely related species. Malassezia species show variable karyotypes ranging between six and nine chromosomes.
