A Bacillus subtilis gene for malate dehydrogenase (citH) was found downstream of genes for citrate synthase and isocitrate dehydrogenase. Disruption of citH caused partial auxotrophy for aspartate and a requirement for aspartate during sporulation. In the absence of aspartate, citH mutant cells were blocked at a late stage of spore formation.

Malate dehydrogenase fractions of the chick embryo were demonstrated after starch gel electrophoresis of homogenates of liver, brain and spleen. A total of seven malate dehydrogenase fractions were observed to occur in the chick embryo in an organ specific pattern.

Pathway of carbon flow during fatty acid synthesis from lactate and pyruvate in rat adipose tissue

The metabolism of pyruvate and lactate by rat adipose tissue was studied. Pyruvate and lactate conversion to fatty acids is strongly concentration-dependent. Lactate can be used to an appreciable extent only by adipose tissue from fasted–refed rats.
