Beyond Labels: Unveiling the Interplay Between Identity and Name Changes in Firm Performance
ABSTRACT Despite the increasing prevalence of corporate name change (CNC) in tandem with a growing body of research on the subject, the boundary and contextual conditions under which CNC yield beneficial or detrimental effects remain underexplored in the current literature.

ICTs to address information inefficiencies in food supply chains
Abstract In developing countries, incomplete and/or asymmetric information contributes to inefficiencies in food supply chains. Various products and services have emerged that rely on Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) to facilitate information flows between agro‐input providers, farmers, traders, and consumers.

Modeling Urban/Rural Fractions in Low- and Middle-Income Countries [PDF]
In low- and middle-income countries, household surveys are the most reliable data source to examine health and demographic indicators at the subnational level, an exercise in small area estimation. Model-based unit-level models are favored in producing the subnational estimates at fine scale, such as the admin-2 level.

Abstract Clinical pharmacology studies are critical for determining the efficacy and safety of drugs. Due to the resource‐intensive nature of these studies, most have been conducted in high‐income countries, leading to a significant gap in clinical pharmacology data for patients in low‐ and middle‐income countries.

Robust inference for the treatment effect variance in experiments using machine learning [PDF]
Experimenters often collect baseline data to study heterogeneity. I propose the first valid confidence intervals for the VCATE, the treatment effect variance explained by observables. Conventional approaches yield incorrect coverage when the VCATE is zero. As a result, practitioners could be prone to detect heterogeneity even when none exists.

Modeling the Marked Presence-only Data: A Case Study of Estimating the Female Sex Worker Size in Malawi [PDF]
Certain subpopulations like female sex workers (FSW), men who have sex with men (MSM), and people who inject drugs (PWID) often have higher prevalence of HIV/AIDS and are difficult to map directly due to stigma, discrimination, and criminalization. Fine-scale mapping of those populations contributes to the progress towards reducing the inequalities and

Persistent hypergraph homology and its applications [PDF]
Persistent homology theory is a relatively new but powerful method in data analysis. Using simplicial complexes, classical persistent homology is able to reveal high dimensional geometric structures of datasets, and represent them as persistent barcodes.

This is a reflective essay about the time I spent volunteering in mental healthcare in Malawi, prior to commencing my psychiatry training. The burden of illness I saw was enormous and the resources very limited; however, I describe some particular experiences where we were able to deliver excellent care, and which made me reflect about mental health ...
