Phylogenetic Revision of Eryphanis Boisduval, with a Description of a New Species from Ecuador (Lepidoptera, Nymphalidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This study provides a species-level phylogeny for the Neotropical brassoline genus Eryphanis Boisduval based on 43 morphological characters. A revised generic definition is given.

On the identification of two Brazilian leafhoppers: redescription of Scoposcartula frontaliana comb. nov. and description of the female of S. talitae (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae: Cicadellini)

open access: yesZoologia (Curitiba), 2012
This paper deals with two species of Scoposcartula Young, 1977 that are very similar to each other externally (form and color pattern): S. frontaliana (Metcalf, 1955) comb. nov. (from the state of Bahia, NE. Brazil) and S.

Simulating Male Selfish Strategy in Reproduction Dispute [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We introduce into the Penna Model for biological ageing one of the possible male mechanisms used to maximize the ability of their sperm to compete with sperm from other males. Such a selfish mechanism increases the male reproduction success but may decrease the survival probability of the whole female population, depending on how it acts.

THE MALE GENITALIA AND THE SUBDIVISIONS OF AGROTIS [PDF]

open access: yesThe Canadian Entomologist, 1891
It is forty years ago since Lederer used the male genitalia to group the European species of Agrotis. According to the latest general work on the subject, the 127 European species of Agrotus fall into nine groups, characterized chiefly by changes in the form of teh male genitalic appendages.

On Female Audience Sending Virtual Gifts to Male Streamers on Douyin [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Live streaming has become increasingly popular. Our study focuses on the emerging Chinese female audiences who send virtual gifts to young male streamers. We observe a reversed entertainer-viewer gender relationship. We aim to study why they watch young male streamers, why they send gifts, and their relationships with these streamers.

Evolution of female choice under intralocus sexual conflict and genotype-by-environment interactions [PDF]

open access: yesLi, X. Y., & Holman, L. (2018). Evolution of female choice under intralocus sexual conflict and genotype-by-environment interactions. Phil. Trans. R. Soc. B, 373(1757), 20170425, 2018
In many species, females are hypothesised to obtain 'good genes' for their offspring by mating with males in good condition. However, female preferences might deplete genetic variance and make choice redundant. Additionally, high-condition males sometime produce low-fitness offspring, for example because of environmental turnover and gene-by ...

Taxonomic considerations on the genera Moneuptychia Forster and Carminda Dias, reval. (Lepidoptera, Nymphalidae, Satyrinae)

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology
Euptychia soter Butler, 1877, the type species of Moneuptychia Forster, 1964, is compared to Satyrus paeon Godart, 1824, the type species of Carminda Dias, 1998. The male genitalia and wing design patterns of these species are dealt with. Some additional

Genital evolution: why are females still understudied? [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Biology, 2014
The diversity, variability, and apparent rapid evolution of animal genitalia are a vivid focus of research in evolutionary biology, and studies exploring genitalia have dramatically increased over the past decade. These studies, however, exhibit a strong

New genera and problematic species in African Lithosiinae (Lepidoptera, Arctiidae, Lymantriidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This paper deals with some problematic species in the subfamily Lithosiinae. Two new monospecific genera are proposed: Parafrasura gen. nov. and Palaeugoa gen. nov.
