The urogenital organs develop from intermediate mesenchyme situated longitudinally in the trunk of an embryo between the splanchnopleuric and somatopleuric mesenchyme.1 2 It bulges into the coelomic cavity forming the medially located genital (or gonadal) ridge and the laterally located nephrogenic ridge on both sides of the gut.

The adjuvant disease of the rat is an experimental disease, not only important as an arthritis model, but also as an "urethritis model" in clinical and therapeutical respects.
