(1) All the parasitic and facultative parasitic species cluster in borealis group. (2) With the addition of new sequences, Tetrahymena is still divided into three groups, namely the “borealis group,” the “australis group,” and the “paravorax group.” (3) the cluster pattern of all the newly sequenced facultative parasitic Tetrahymena species shows that ...

Co‐acquisition of mineral‐bound iron and phosphorus by natural Trichodesmium colonies
Abstract Low iron (Fe) and phosphorus (P) ocean regions are often home to the globally important N2‐fixing cyanobacterium Trichodesmium spp., which are physiologically adapted to Fe/P co‐limitation. Given Trichodesmium's eminent ability to capture particles and the common associations between Fe and P in sediments and aerosols, we hypothesized that ...

Hyperbolic plane geometry revisited [PDF]
Using the method of C. V\"or\"os, we establish results in hyperbolic plane geometry, related to triangles and circles. We present a model independent construction for Malfatti's problem and several trigonometric formulas for triangles.Comment: 21 pages 6

Abstract This work investigates the application of a tiered risk assessment scheme for soil organisms based on the risk quotient (RQ) and the toxicity exposure ratio (TER). Forty‐five pesticides registered in Latin America were chosen and the ecotoxicological endpoints for earthworms, Collembola, and microorganisms were collated.

Understanding phenomena: From social to collective?
Abstract In making sense of the world, we typically cooperate, join forces, and draw on one another's competence and expertise. A group or community in which there is a well‐functioning division of cognitive‐epistemic labor can achieve levels of understanding that a single agent who relies exclusively on her own capacities would probably never achieve.

A hidden cost of mucus production by phytoplankton: Viscosity hinders nutrient uptake
Abstract Diverse phytoplankton exude polysaccharides that can form a viscous mucus layer surrounding their cells, facilitating complex chemical exchanges with bacteria. An unexplored ramification of mucus production is the influence of its viscosity on the diffusion of nutrients such as vitamins to the cell.

Microbial community development on model particles in the deep sulfidic waters of the Black Sea
Summary Microorganisms attached to particles have been shown to be different from free‐living microbes and to display diverse metabolic activities. However, little is known about the ecotypes associated with particles and their substrate preference in anoxic marine waters.

Optimal Control Sphere Packing Problem [PDF]
The sphere packing problem which is to pack non-overlapping spheres with the maximum volume into a convex set. The problem belongs to a class of global optimization. Convex maximization formulation of the problem is given in [1, 12].
